Don't multiply votes by 10

280 points posted to IdeaStorm by badblood Feb 18

When you cast a vote the idea gets +/- 10 points, while the user who submitted the idea gets 1 point. This distorts the real number of votes and voters.

Please give an idea +/-1 point for 1 vote and don't multiply by 10.

How about to make it even they give you 10 points for each vote and your points deteriorate over time like the votes? (not to Dell: This is a sarcastic joke meant to make badblood laugh. Please don't impliment anything based on my comment) :D

right now this should have 5 votes and not 50....makes a big difference to the perception....

I think they want you to feel special with the score increasing rapidly.

Well it's like marking stock prices up really. For a casual visitor they might actually believe that 50 people think this is a pretty cool idea.

In the presidential primaries they do it the opposite way. Millions of people vote and the person only gets a couple hundred delegates.

Much like the whole Microsoft deal, they give you 10 points for marketing reasons to make it look like a lot of people are voting, if it was just one point most ideas would only number in the early teens or even just 10.

Then they twist it on your vote count and only give you 1 of those points because they're keeping the other 9 as a tax on the whole site. See even on this site they over charge, its hard to keep them from doing what they do in sales or any point giving. Now you can probably deduce how much your computer is actually worth wholesale.

I think the whole idea behind the 10 points system is to allow points to decay. Which is something none of us likes anyway. I say one point for one vote. End the decaying points system. When a decision has been taken on an idea then there's no need to vote on it any longer. The idea can then be moved to an archived part of the site.

I dont mind any of the two options. Would rather have Dell focus on other things though.. Dont find points that important really. Unless you can turn em in for credit to buy computers?!?! Now thats an idea there DELL :D

What are points for anyways really? Jokes aside.

Points are used to manipulate you and public opinion, in so far as they do not reflect the true number of voters.

Voting is a system to enable people like yourself to feel like you are making a difference, that you are participating.

Points and voting combined are intended to keep you motivated. They are a a type of visual reward system that plays on your native tendency to compete with your fellows, to promote or condemn them, to compete with them for points, which symbolize status and power on the internet.

But do not feel in any way compelled to vote if you feel unsure...but wait you have already voted.

Soon we will each receive a banana.

"I think they want you to feel special with the score increasing rapidly."

Then they probably want you to feel bad with the score decreasing rapidly.
