DELL ENTERTAIMENT CENTER-INTERNET ON TV

50 points posted to Broadband and Mobility, New Product Ideas by step69 Feb 19

All over the internet I see ads for watching TV on your computer. To me this is the opposite of what people should want, other than for laptops.Who wants to be stuck to their desktop to watch TV? Dell or another company should be able to make a wireless or hw connector that allows for to the end user to view the actual internet not just get video streams. They could even have TV's with a built in computer that allows for a direct connection to the internet & a network connection. Also include a remote with mouse-like capabilities. This would make full use of IPTV.There may be something like this somewhere, but I haven't personally been able to find true internet on your TV in all my searches on search engines.

Actually there was a product I bought last year (ImageFly 2000) that allows me to wirelessly view the internet, but the resolution stinks & it has a lot of static & interference.

If you want internet on the TV use your new digital flat screen as a monitor and get a wireless mouse and keyboard.

ah1f-What if I or someone else doesn't have a digital flat screen or doesn't want to spend the $900 or up for this? What if it's not feasible to have your computer close enough to your big screen? I have a wireless network so I don't have to run wires all over my house. I should be able to do this wirelessly. Also, Microsoft has an interface with their Media Center w/a GUI it just for some reason doesn't have the actual internet-at least I don't think it does.If Dell had an MS media Center type of software w/the remore I spoke of you wouldn't need a mouse, just a wireless keyboard. You also wouldn't have to switch back & forth between video modes if it were done like a MS Media Center PC.You could have all the things seen currently with other Media Centers, just with the added category of "internet" or "web" & not just video streams.

Thanks for the post.

So you are thinking like a giant plasma with a computer built in. With wireless mouse and keyboard? Like our XPS One, but mounted on a wall?

If I'm following what you are saying.

Pretty much. But like I said above maybe integrate the actual internet in to a MS Media Center option seperate from Video streams. I was actually thinking of a desktop having the program Media Center built in like MS Media Center & to wireless send to a television. Your XPS with remote & tuner didn't come to mind but it is a good example of what I am talking about. Your built in device makes my original idea easier & better than what I was thinking.I really believe it will only be a matter of time before we are able to view new movies on pay-per-video online(legally) this type of software would only speed along the inevitable.
