Give us some details about your planned mini notebook PC.

There are several requests now for mini notebook PCs here.

I came across a technological-oriented Web site from another idea, and I noticed that apparently Dell is planning a "sub-notebook" (mini notebook PC) (that Web page apparently also has a link to another Web site, with a similar report; a link to that Web page is here).

I myself am unlikely to buy mini notebooks...I prefer 17" notebooks...but still, I might consider it. I would like Dell to give us some details concerning it.

What screen sizes and resolutions would be offered? What operating systems would be offered? (I am hoping for XP and Vista to be offered; but Linux might also be an option probably.) What are the specifications for the rest, like hard drive, memory and processor options? Will there be built in optical drives? (I am doubtful of that but I still am unsure, so I would like Dell to provide details about this too.) Please provide some details Dell.

I also forgot, how will it look like? And what will it be called (what would its model number be)? Maybe it could be called the Inspiron M1000 (M for mini)?

There is a discussion in progress with Dell in this idea.

Perhaps we could keep it all in on location.

I am psyched about these rumors of Dell offering an eee competitor. With the new eee around the corner, I want to be able to make a decision about which I want.

I found some details about the HP MiniNote notebook PC (another mini notebook PC), from okroger104 here: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10079892/Design_a_UMPC_to_counter_HPs_m....

"8.9" LCD w 1366x768 resolution., Up to 2GB ram, Intel silverthorne or VIA Isaiah processor, Choice of Vista or Linux., USB port(s), Multi card reader port., 7200RPM HD or SSD, Gigabit Ethernet, Wifi - N, Bluetooth, Graphics solution that can handle Vista's Aero., Webcam, Expresscard/54 port."

I would like Dell to offer similar offerings on its mini notebook PC. Only I would prefer it if it could have a 9" or 10" screen (not required but preferable). But the resolution must be 16:10 (like 1280x800). Offer both anti-glare and TrueLife (glossy) screens. There should be 1 GB and 2 GB memory options. Intel processors as with the HP MiniNote. The OS options should include Windows Vista (like the HP MiniNote), all four editions: Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate, and the options will also include a Linux distribution probably (I think Ubuntu). There should be at least 2 USB ports. As with the MiniNote, there should be standard hard drive (at least 80 GB and 120 GB options) and solid state hard drive options. Gigabit Ethernet should be offered like on the MiniNote. If the MiniNote can offer a graphics solution that can handle the Vista Aero interface, then so can the Dell mini notebook. Dell should certainly offer that. As for the webcam, offer it but let us opt out if we want.

The MiniNote starts at $499, but I think that the target for Dell should be around $299 (starting price; changing the configuration might change the price).

The Dell mini notebook PC should look exactly the MiniNote, except that the keyboard should be black, the touchpad buttons should be in front of the touchpad instead of the sides, the Dell circle on the exterior lid should be in the center (the HP logo on the MiniNote exterior lid is not), and it should be silver.
