4GB RAM and E8000 series processors on XPS One

210 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Servers and Storage, XPS products by wallyhorse Apr 14

Got a look at the XPS one over the weekend, and especially now for the first time that I can remember it offering at least the E6550 processor I would be looking at. But the big drawback is you can only take it right now with 2GB of RAM. With that in mind, I would look for that machine at making the following additional options:

1. Having XPS Ones with at least 4GB or RAM (or more if possible) as an option. This would appeal to those who want more than 2GB of RAM.

2. Offer the newer E8000 series processors in the XPS one. Not only do those apparently use less power, but they also have a 6MB Cache/1333 FSB as opposed to 4MB/1333 FSB for the E6550 or 2MB/800 FSB for the E4500.

These two changes would make the XPS One much more appealing in my opinion.

I agree completely. This computer should definetely get the capability of becomming a very powerful computer. As it is right now, its nowhere near powerful, even when compared to other All in Ones in the market already which already sport better video cards etc. I think that in addition to those options you have stated, that more video power should be given as well. That way, even gamers might be interested in this computer. I already made an idea asking for more video power on this computer a while ago, you can go to it through this link: http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10076698/XPS_One__More_Video_Power_on_X...

PS. I mean, if DELL is going to sell this computer under the XPS tag, DELL needs to put better hardware options for it. Right now, it really does not cut it hardware wise to be sold under the XPS tag. Design and beauty, yes. But not power.

The comments above all point to a major disadvantage ,in the public eye, to buying Dell. Too often the DIY upgrading potential is limited. Dell's insistance on building to a given spec- limit -and no more- has now led potential buyers to look elsewhere for systems that offer more scope to upgrade Ram , graphics etc. ideally any System should be sold with clear user friendly advice on what upgrades can be fitted by the user for future expansion. One of my PCs is a 4 year old Dimension 2300. Adding another 512Kb Ram and precious little else is about all that's possible . Dell neeed to sell a product that will be more capable of keeping up over say, a 3 year period

An LED lit screen would help on the power consumption too. Also with XP sticking around for a few more years how about some drivers for the features of the "One" that aren't out there yet.

I know what you mean on spec limits:

I know Dell likes to streamline it for the general public as much as possible, but on the XPS one for instance, the options of (at least) 4GB RAM and at least an E8000 series processor (and Quad Core processors as well) and as suggested an LED lit screen would help as well.
