XPS M1530 Enhancements

470 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products by vanza Apr 25

The specs of the M1530 look great, but there are some enhancements that would make it much better. A few that have been already proposed:

. Gigabit Ethernet
. Non-glossy screen option
. GeForce 8700 graphics card

And a few I haven't seen here yet:

. e-SATA port
. S/PDIF or optical audio out in the default config.
. move one of the headphone connectors to the side for the above connection.

I know you currently can get S/PDIF out with the Sound Blaster XFi. But that card is not supported on Linux - there are beta drivers, but no goodies like S/PDIF passthrough. Also, the relocated output port would make it less cumbersome to actually have the S/PDIF or optical cable connected to the computer.

- Non-glossy screen option
- headphone connectors to the side

Wait until montevina. Im hoping dell will upgrade their existing xps range by adding the new chipset. This also means we'll get the new graphics cards to go with it! :D

A GeForce 8700 would melt in such a thin laptop like the M1530.

yeah..i really love to have a 15 inch laptop with high quality graphic card..as a gamers..i just cant stop play game..so what i just need is a laptop with a quite high graphic..such as 8700 geforce..so..hope dell consider it..cause i will buy it..and dell own alienware..if area 51 m15x can have a very high graphic..why cant m1530??not asking for SLI enable graphic card..but a single high quality graphic card is enough..and if its too heavy for m1530..then do sumthing to make it compatible with the laptop..thats all i asked..

I agree with all of the above except the 8700. I'd rather they just update the 8600M GT to a 9500M GS or 9600M GS.

i think they could manage a 9800m gt in the next xps system. With all the thermal enhacements and lower power consumptions thses new cards are SUPPOSED to have i cant see it would be that difficult.

I would rather they made the laptop 1cm thicker and included a 9800m gt than 1cm thinner and include a 9500m GS.

how about Centrino 2 (with the P9500 processor that very few others offer), a 9600gt (personally I don't want it any thicker with a 9800 gt), and a backlit keyboard.
