Monitor price too high!

260 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Monitors and Displays by junior May 12

Dell, the price of the new Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP at a starting price of $1999....this is a rip-off. I've seen an 47" LCD HDTV with 1080p at just $1199 CDN and is cheaper in US Dollars. Maybe think about lowering the price of this monitor in the near future.

You know that Dell is doing something wrong price-wise when an Apple product is cheaper.

I think Dell over priced this monitor and the XPS 730 so they can move the old inventory of 3007 and XPS 720, however I think Dell went about it the wrong way, the best way to move old inventory is to dramatically lower the price of the old inventory not by over pricing the replacement. I'll continue to wait a few more weeks for the XPS 730 price to drop and for Dell to add more configurable options to it, if they do not do that then I'll have no viable choice but to build my own PC again...

I couldn't find the warranty for the Apple display, was it three years as well?
@junior, this is no TV, the resolution is 2560x1600, HD is only about 1600x1080.
Not saying I can afford it either, it is pricey, but in my opinion, well worth it if you need a 30 inch monitor. This monitor is stunning.

Aaron is correct the native resolution on this baby is 2560 x 1600 at 60 Hz and a pixel pitch of 0.2505 mm. Show me a TV that costs $1199 that can do that and I will up this idea. Size has nothing to do with resolution. That 47" tv probably has a pixel pitch of .5 or more, you can probably see the individual pixels on that. Where as the DELL 3008WFP is smooth as silk. The price of it is very close to a similar display from another computer company I know of with the same specs.

the SP2208WFP has 1080p which works most of the time and it starts just below $400, well, its only 22"...this new 30" monitor is still over-priced and it does not have 1080pure with it.

it doesn't have 1080p because it has something better ------ 1600p, You should realize and understand what resolution means. Yes when watching tv or a hddvd/blueray on this thing the extra resolution wont do you any good. however when used on your desktop for games or just browsing the web it will use it's full resolution provided you have a graphics card that can handle all that resolution.

This monitor could indeed be made cheaper (and thinner, lighter, more efficient, etc., etc.) A major benefit of DisplayPort was to be all these things, but DP is being hampered by not providing them. Soon, all-DP graphics cards will be out (e.g. ATI FireMV 2260) and we should have a line of all-DP monitors to match, say 20", 22", 24" and 30". Just one line, please... otherwise, Dell is slowing the adoption of what they've been behind for years now (and promising benefits for). Get rid of old connections on one line, please - give us *all* the benefits of DP.
