The future of computing is mobile, virtual and green

I noticed the above tagline at Dell's homepage and would like to give my 2cents worth and idea here.

We are having limitation on the battery life of mobile devices like laptop, tablet PC, wireless handhelds, portable printer, mobile phones, portable DVD and GPS. These devices can be categorized into 3 input voltage range of 5V, 9-12V and 15-20V.

To have a universal external power bank that stores DC power from AC source that could be used to power/charge these devices. It's like filling up [charging] a water bottle (how much gallon/liter depending on required capacity) from tap [AC source]. With that, consumer will no longer constraint to tap/water cooler, in fear of the imminent thirst [low batt in devices] and having to frantically looking for tap when thirsty. We see that at airports, train stations, Starbucks, libraries very often, as the seats (if any) are usually taken around AC source.

This device is universal because it could be used for all 3 voltage range as mentioned about, ie, it's a cup (5V- mobile phones, PDA), water bottle (9-12V- DV cam, portable DVD) and water tank (15-20V- laptops).

Back to the Future of Computing...

1. Mobile and virtual- it was not that long ago that processor speed and memory were the critical path. Today's digital age, memory are externally built, coming in GigaBytes and TeraBytes. It's about time battery do the same.

2. Green- being universal means doing more with less. This in turn cut down on material, products that are duplicate in nature. For example, I'm using Dell D600 laptop, Nokia N95 mobile phone, Samsung S860 digital camera and Tom Tom GPS system. Thus, this universal power bank could reduce 4 or more product's batteries (built-in that has to go with respective devices), chargers, AC adapters, cables, instruction manuals and their packaging carton boxes, transportation/freight cost etc.

This post is getting kinda long and thus, will further illustrate when comments start coming in.
