Please unmerge these totally unrelated ideas.

This was a bad merge.

http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/64157/Dell_allinone_Desktop_Computer_an...

I'm thinking this was done to "hide" the picture of HP's HDX. I could be wrong.

Anyway, what would be the reason for merging an idea about a 20" laptop with one about an all-in-one desktop with built in printer?

Quite unrelated and unnatural wouldn't you agree?

wonder why someone would demote???

Perhaps because it's not an idea. I sent two notices to the admins that seemingly went ignored. Maybe that's their way of saying that their decision is final. And that's cool too. But nothing beats a failure like a try.

So they'll be along soon to delete this non-idea. Hopefully they'll respond to it before deleting this.

You know, it might actually be a merge mistake. They may have wanted to merge it with another 20" Notebook idea but accidentally merged it with that unrelated one.

Also, why is the older idea merged into the more recent one?? It should be the other way around!

And, why would anyone demote this????

okroger104: I am afraid that you will have to just post your idea (the one that got merged) again, as I doubt that any "unmerge" possibility exists.

I think to solve all of these unrelated merges, the moderators should contact the original posters and let them know that their ideas are being merged and let them have a say in whether it should be merged or not. I understand that they are trying to clean up the site but input from the ops would help in the validity of the merges.

yes, I agree with both WO and joyscant1980, okroger104... go for it! repost! But, at the same time, the mods really SHOULD at least attempt to contact the original submitters (as I suspect a number of original submitters no longer visit the site!).

Nah, I'm going to let it go. If they can unmerge great. If not, no big whoop. I'll leave it in their hands. But thanks all.

And they can feel free to delete this non-idea.

With Centrino 2 due out in a few weeks, whomever's got what I'm looking for, I'll buy from. Be it HP or Dell. Figure I'll throw down some cash in late August.

I've been following Ideastorm for about a year now. Not too many things implemented as a direct result of ideas submitted. Most things implemented were things Dell would have in all probability done anyway or are copied features of the competition. You can't expect all that much differentiation and innovation considering that Dell uses the same ODMs (Compal, Quanta, etc) as HP, Lenovo, etc, does. Niche catering may give them a leg up though.

Their Linux offering has gone no where really, but luckily I can install Ubuntu myself.

So it's all good. Dell has served me well and I hope to continue being a loyal "Dell only" customer. But their product offerings are diverging from my needs and wants recently. *gulp* It's more a compromise than excitement these days.

Keep hope alive. :)

Yes, I DO understand that. Sometimes it becomes SO discouraging when trying to do GOOD.

Dell is constrained by the 'shareholder-driven' model most corporations have bought into.

Short term gain emphasized.

As a world of people, okroger104, I'm sure you know as well as I that we CANNOT AFFORD continual pursuit of only short term gain... isn't that largely what has gotten us (ALL of us, worldwide) into ALL the messes we're in?

Humans don't seem to learn. Too many who take risks are taking them for the wrong reasons, FAR too few will take them for the RIGHT ones, and too many of THOSE don't understand that on top of all the well-meaning it REQUIRES patience, goodwill, and understanding... understanding even of those who oppose you... understanding for their point of view... Meaning, the ability to find ways to make peace, one person at a time.
