I've alrady posted this idea but it wasn't very explicit :

LED Screens are available in US on the XPS M1530, but they're not in Europe.

Here in Europe we'd like to order a Dell XPS M1530 with an LED screen, given the benefits it provides compared to CCFL screens. Thousands customers expect an LED display is available for this model to order the computer.

DELL: you lose customers beacause LED Screen isn't available on the XPS M1530. I find it unfortunate that in Europe we can not choose the same components as the USA.

I appeal to DELL: Please, make LED screens available in Europe for the XPS M1530, we expect that to order them.

Please DELL users, promote my idea because DELL do as if we, European customers doesn't exist and let Led creens available only in the USA : you, americans and others people, be helpful with us.

tovare May 19	My vote to this as well, but I think I should add that even if the LED screen is the best option, it's not as good as high-end Samsung and Sony TV's, which is the quality direction Dell should be aiming :-)
missdiva May 21	Can someone from Dell just give a sensible reason why the LED screen isn't available in Europe/UK. Why is it that new options are available in the USA but everyone else has to wait. As an International Company, Dell should ensure that all products are available in ALL Countries at the same time.
tim_k May 27	I sincerely hope we will at least be told if Dell is or isn't going to implement them in Europe. It's the only reason why I'm still holding off the purchase.

gdawg304 Jun 2	I have just had an online chat with a customer advisor on the Dell UK website. I mentioned that LED screens had been available in the US for some time now, and that since we all know what is available in other markets, it'd be nice to have a reason why we're getting less option. the only response was "I'm afraid we have no update on this". How hard would it be to say - there just aren't enough LED panels to market worldwide yet? It took about 3 months before we had the same screen resolution options as the USA, now looks like a long wait in Europe for the LED... Off topic - I also mentioned the 1680x1050 screen resolution (CCFL, fat chance of LED), which is still available, it seems - but not on the options list. What's with Dell chopping and changing their online configuration modules. (and I also asked why they try to sell people 4GB of RAM without offering a 64-bit OS that can use it - I was told most software isn't compatible with 64-bit OS..) Come on Dell - talk to your potential customers - or lose out on sales revenue. Tell us why Europe and UK are treated as a second class market, it's not like we can't find out all the extra options which are available elsewhere! And more importantly tell us when we're getting the LED backlights on the XPS M1530

Why aren't they available now? 3. Why does Dell treat us as 2nd class citizens? gdawg304 Jun 8	Well inkslug - to be honest I'm thinking that since Dell highlight the 4GB upgrade in bright green on the configurator on their website, I might write to the Advertising Standards Authority with a little complaint - how many people would fork out the extra cash because they think 'more is better' without knowing the 32-bit OS can't see most of the extra memory? It's borderline false advertising. And since they just got stung in New York over their financing options etc....maybe they'd like some legal trouble this side of the Atlantic too! Especially as they don't have enough respect for their customers to explain why they won't sell 64-bit OS (software isn't compatible? oh please....whoever taught that customer service rep ought to get some IT training). I appreciate the USA is their primary market, but Europe has 50% more people and is less likely to be going through a recession in the near future...so you'd think we're a relatively important market.... OS aside, I'm not that fussed as 3GB is plenty for now. But the lack of the WLED screen is a sore point that would put me off buying the machine, knowing they might soon be available. So why a Dell rep cannot give a statement on why we don't have them, and when we will, is a mystery. Put an LED screen (btw how about at 16:9 ratio screen as some manufacturers are doing??) and an Nvidia 9x series graphics chipset and I'd be reaching for the VISA card. As it is...I'll wait....
aikiwolfie Jun 8	Well if you're going to complain to the advertising standards get your facts right or your complaint will fall on it's face. If you opt for the 4GB of RAM you will get most of it. In fact you will get something like 3.75GB. That means you're only losing quarter of a gigabyte at most. That's a long way of losing "MOST" of the upgrade advantage. Which is probably Dells reasoning and they'd probably get away with it since 4GB physically exists in the machine.

Dell has never mentioned anywhere that all ideas will be implemented or that we would have dates or timeframes to all of your wishes. If there was a specific date I could provide in regards to your idea, I would provide it. And being treated as a 2nd class citizen? I am not sure what we have done to make you feel like this? gdawg304 Jun 9	@aikiwolfie - yes you're right, I made the remark about ASA to be contentious, and I have too much free time :op. but since the video card has 256MB - there's your 3.75GB. Once you add in the address space taken over for hardware like the system bus etc you could be left with under 3GB visible to the OS....I gather that most systems have anything from 0.5 - 1.25GB 'off limits' to the OS. In any event the point is - why aren't we given the option of a 64-bit OS which will make better use of the 4GB upgrade instead of just telling us 'most software isn't compatible with 64-bit OS's? It's not the end of the world...but it would be a nice option to have, just as much as some people would like linux etc @jackie_c I believe what missdiva and I meant by the 2nd class citizen comment, is that the LED sceens are available in the USA, we know they are available, we are not ignorant of the fact - we know they can be purchased in Dell's home market...but we are only told 'there is no update on this' when we ask if/when they'll be available in the UK. If production yields are not high enough to market them everywhere, supply can't meet demand (or whatever the reason) - could Dell not just tell us, or say that these screens will be available (or not) in the UK at some point? It would be a small courtesy much appreciated by many prospective customers. I guess those of us with friends in the USA could get one from over there instead....(doubly good with the exchange rate although not so good for the warranty....). you are saying that not all of the ideas on here are implemented - but these screens are already available in the USA...so in effect the idea has been implemented in selective markets. To be honest i think most of us would be happy if Dell just said 'yes, we will be making these available at some point in the future', or 'there are no plans to market this product outside the USA' - someone somewhere at Dell must have an idea?

gdawg304 Jun 9	off topic but - aikiwolfie, this is from Microsoft help & Support webpage (just do a web search for 4GB showing 3GB or something similar), so it's MS's official line on 32-bit Vista, last reviewed 18th Feb 2008 - and 3,120MB is not most* of the extra GB upgrade - whether that's what it actually shows or not, I can't comment. But don't you think it would be nice to have the option of a system with a 64-bit OS instead of having to buy separately? Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access. This is known as memory-mapped I/O (MMIO). For the MMIO space to be available to 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside within the first 4 GB of address space. The reduction in available system memory depends on the devices that are installed in the computer. However, to avoid potential driver compatibility issues, the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista limit the total available memory to 3.12 GB. See the "More information" section for information about potential driver compatibility issues. If a computer has many installed devices, the available memory may be reduced to 3 GB or less. However, the maximum memory available in 32-bit versions of Windows Vista is typically 3.12 GB

aikiwolfie Jun 10	So far as a 64-bit OS goes i think you're entitled to the 64-bit Vista installation disc. Call Dell tech support and see if they'll send you one. There was a thread in the StormRoom over on Dell forums on that very issue. To answer your question though. Yes I do think we should all be on 64-bit OSs by now. I've said so often enough. But either way I don't pay extra because I use Ubuntu. I get everything I want from an OS for free. :o)
gdawg304 Jun 11	@jackie_c - thanks and I can appreciate that, however we live in a global community where information is much more freely available than even 10 years ago....and therefore as consumers we become very frustrated when we know a better item is available but not being offered to us, with (and this is the important part) no real reason given as to why. They're not two different product lines, they are just two different features on a product which IS offered globally. And when the customer services people seem to have even less idea than the customer, or denies all knowledge, it feels like the consumer is being treated as if they are somewhat stupid. I personally would surmise that the yield of LED screens is not high enough at this point to be offered globally....but since there is no official word from Dell this is just a supposition :o) And let's face it, Dell don't care one way or the other if someone like me does or does not buy their computer, because for every one person who wants the best tech available, there are 10 who just want something to send emails with. @aikiwolfie - that may be so but I'm not sure if I'd be able to play Crysis on ubuntu, which means I have to stick to Windows ;o) I was told by the sales advisor that Dell don't offer the 64-bit OS at all, due to software not being compatible (since 64-bit Vista runs a sort of 32-bit emulation, almost no software is incompatible, so that's complete rubbish!) Anyway, as much as I like to drag on, I honestly don't think this thread will get any answers - Dell either won't bother releasing the WLED screen version of the M1530 in the UK, which will annoy those consumers who know the difference, or they will, at some point in the future (presumably just before they release a new product range entirely within the USA)...and our British habit of complaining (well, of just politely asking for any information other than a corporate line) won't make one bit of difference So I will leave it that and go back to doing some work ;o)

extortioner Jun 14	I agree with the original poster, Europe needs LED backlighting for the M1530s as well. If it can be done in the US, it surely can be done here as well. It's the only reason I'm waiting with upgrading to a new laptop.

I have been waiting over 2 months since I have been told by an Australian representative over the phone that it should be "coming in the next month". It is disgraceful that some countries (i.e the US) are being given preferential treatment over others in terms of options in product quality, particularly when there are evidently many customers who are willing to pay for the WLED screen if it was available. Could you please resolve this or provide a thorough explanation. You are losing customers over this poor marketing decision.

I've posted the idea more than one month and DELL didn't let us any answer. We are still waiting. I know that AU Optronics just launches a new LED Screens for 15,4" Notebooks : WXGA+, 1440*900, the same as the XPS M1530 needs : http://auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?sec=notebook&func=info&product_id=151&item... Chimei is not the onlyest supplier of LED Screens, they're also AU Optronics and LG/Philips. Au Optronics just launches a new LED SCreen panel, they're not still a LED Screen shortage. I don't understand how DELL can focus only on the Amercian and Canadians, we also got a VISA Card and we can purchase DELL products and we can pay for options like LED SCREENS. Thanks

mdevoucoux Jun 16	Yes, I'm sure, In UK : I live in France and it is not also available, I think that it is not possible that it is available in Tesco, because this problem concerns all of the laptops who are made in Limerick in Ireland and in Lodz in Poland

zjill Jun 18	It's not only the fact that Dell doesn't sell LED screens in Europa, but also in Europe we have to wait longer for an update (as in new hardware). An international company like dell should treat every costumer market in the same way

aikiwolfie Jun 18	Well it seems Apple customers are having issues getting their mitts on 15" LED LCDs as well. There would seem to be a bigger issue at play here. Might I also add that just because someone has brought a product onto the market, that doesn't mean they can instantly mass produce the thing. It takes time to build up stocks. With nearly every laptop and display manufacturer chasing these things, those stocks aren't going to last long.

I don't have my own laptop at the moment - I have been borrowing one of theirs whilst I wait to purchase my own. I want an M1530 with an LED screen, and I have been waiting since Xmas. I was in the Apple shop in Bluewater recently.....mmm, nice screen on the MacBook Pro and all that free face to face support and training, wow. If LEDs are in short supply and you don't want to put them on the 1530 until things improve why not say so ? Waiting in a queue would be so much better than just waiting. I implore you good people at Dell, I'm sure you can see my dilemna here, give me some hope to cling to please. Mike

mdevoucoux Jul 4	DELL didn't answer on my idea, so i will answer to you : I chatted with the manager of DELL Southern Europe, (France...) who said me that there would never be any Led Screen on the XPS M1530, but there will be one on the next XPS, maybe the XPS M1535...

swatie Jul 9	I want to spend 1500 EUR in a laptop, and of course I don't want a second class screen knowing there is a better one for other people. If there is a LED displays shortage, just raise the price for ALL the customers. The first company that releases a laptop with a 9600M and a high quality LED screen (keep away from AUO) will get my money.
