Have VGA port with locking nuts on all laptops, not just Latitudes

270 points posted to Laptops by donut May 18

[This isn't about whether or not to have a 15-pin VGA port, but applies to laptops which do have one of those ports.]

The VGA port on Latitude laptops has holes for the locking screws on VGA cables, so the video cable can be securely fastened to the computer.

For some reason, some/most Inspiron and Vostro laptops don't have those, so it's not possible to securely attach a VGA cable to those laptops. Also, since most VGA cables have locking screws, over time the laptop casing next to the VGA connector could become damaged where the ends of the cable screws press against it.

I wish PC manufacturers would get over the whole locking nut fad. Once upon a time it seemed like a great idea to have cables securely bolted into place so they wouldn't get pulled out accidentally when someone trips over a cable.

Now when people trip on PC cables they don't just stumble while you inconveniently lose the last half hours work. Now they take a full on face dive into the floor and lose all their teeth while suffering a sever concussion from both the impact with the floor and the impact of your PCs display landing on their heads. And for that they sue the company for everything they can get. There has to be a better way.
