use open firmware on all systems

320 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support by dgilmore May 21

Rather than using a closed bios that is limited in functionality. Use open firmware http://www.openfirmware.org/ on all systems. it gives greater flexibility and will allow dell to provide open source solutions from top to bottom.

It doesn't support a lot of motherbooards, but it'd be nice if you put it on the motherboards it supports.

Dell could have software developers modify it to support more motherboards and send the improvements back to openfirmware.org. This could potentially do for Dell's hardware what open source did for Linksys' hardware, as it became the hardware of choice for hobbyists and gave Linksys the majority of the market for home routers and switches.
