XPS Laptops

100 points posted to XPS products by gamer128 Jul 6

I think this is the one question that most mobile gamers want to know. Will Dell make a laptop like the M1530 that is a gaming laptop? I don't mean like high end, just a laptop that can do well with most PC games out there. Think...imagine if Dell could partner up with NVIDIA to make a graphics card that is powerful to handle...like Crysis! And that when that graphics card gets old, or the motherboard, you could just get an upgrade just like the desktops.

I think Dell and all pc makers are restricted by size and cooling limitation, the 1530 form factor doesnt have enough room to cram decent gaming hardware in it, cooling would be another likely problem. On a final thought the more powerful video cards the larger the power supply and less battery life in games or not.

cant upgrade graphics cards on most laptops, even those that have the option like the 1710 and 1730 should be performed by a professional, warranty will be void if done by a non dell certified tech.

If Dell made a laptop that had the designs of the Studio laptop and the power of an M1730 that would be good

Well I still think that notebooks can be good at videogames, plus if you play on a battery it won't be as good as playing when you've plugged in. But I still think it is possible.

I don't think Dell would do this.

If you're a seriously hard-core gamer who needs more power than the M1530 offers (which is quite a bit already) then they'll probably direct you to Alienware.

Mmmm..... m15x.... *drool*

But don't you think that having the GeForce 9 series on all the XPS laptops is a good idea? Because the XPS computers are the high-end?

Ya they should have geForce 9M but they should aslo make them look a lot nicer

Right on, everybody!

I think it would be fantastic to see the M1530/new similar upgraded to the GeForce 9 series, but I don't think space/heat allows for it, which is perhaps why it hasn't already happened?

@matthew_rankin: no, XPS was originally meant for gaming. (XPS = eXtreme Performance System. no joke) the new multimedia focus has only come about since the introduction of the laptop lineup.. obviously there aren't many proper gaming laptops, so.

I just say that they should make notebooks be able to handle major PC games, and that the laptop life be longer, because already this laptop that I'm using is getting to be unstable, and I got it only last year!

Are you by chance trying to overclock it? That might be why it's breaking down already.

The only portable notebook that can really handle "major PC games" is the m15x. But let's face it -- that's just really for the novelty.
I think most gamers would prefer a proper desktop with a separate mouse, bigger screen, and cooler operation. You can much more easily overclock a desktop.

Well then how about those people who are on the go, and want to play Crysis? And they can't afford the m15x?

Considering my M1330 can play Crysis on medium at about 25-30fps, the M1530 should easily be able to handle it.

You'll only need an m15x if you're a graphics fanatic and wanted to play it on Ultra at 1920x1200 and get at least 60fps.
But if that's you then you should really be looking at a desktop.

Either way you have to admit that the XPS laptops should have a decent graphics card.

I agree but I think the 8600 is decent enough already. It's a good mainstream card which seems right for 15" laptops.
As I said it would be nice to see it updated to the 9600 but I don't think it will go beyond that..

Coming back to your original post, I think said "mobile gamers" asking for a proper 15" gaming notebook are being a bit unreasonable. Sure, you can have a mobile gaming rig, but it will be about 17" and will be very heavy. And won't have a long battery life.
So you might aswell just get a desktop and have a bigger screen and proper mouse/keyboard.

fine a 9600 GT would be a good graphics card.

I think the idea of a customisable/upgradeable gaming laptop isn't totally out of the question, but it would probably have to be bigger than 15". And the problem then is that if people don't want to upgrade it, they're left with a lot of wasted space and probably a big power supply that won't be used..

Do you have a 1530 at the moment and have you tried playing Crysis?

i just want to know one thing why did you demote my idea? When we all agree that there should be a decent graphics card in the XPS laptops?
