Sell XPS Centrino 2 Laptops

1170 points posted to New Product Ideas, XPS products, Laptops by pwl2706 Jul 18

As almost all your competition now have Centrino 2 laptops launched, it is time for DELL to refresh the XPS Laptop line so I can buy a 13 inch XPS laptop with Centrino 2.

promoted because a refresh is needed to keep them up to date with their competitiors. However i myself would be more interested in the 15 inch xps centrino 2 more than the 13.

Dont you think Dell would do this without having you to post it as an "Idea", you think they wouldnt introduce this new platform that would definately attract the consumer and therfore increasing sales?
Sorry im being rude but think of it, this isnt really an idea...

you'd think Dell would do a lot of seemingly obvious things without us telling them to but somehow they still don't. promote.

yeah. maybe, but not something like this...yes, things like they lack of graphics cards, you wont find a Dell XPS with a GTX 260/80 or an ATI 4000 series. but Centrino 2, Dell announced Montevina way before this post/idea...in March actually!

A little research wont hurt...

All that's saying is they hope Centino 2 will be in it cause it'll be released around that time. They haven't announced anything officially and people should be more concerned who are all for Dells. Centrino 2 offers massive increases in battery life and that's what laptops are all about. It also makes the laptop much cooler and quieter.

Dell already have the Montevina Laptops, all their waiting for is Intel to fix a release date and the Dells would be on the shelf, so i dont get the point of this "Idea".

@fahdriyami:Intel has already released Montevina, what are you trying to say?

I've been looking at getting an XPS 1530, but am holding off until the XPS range is updated - hopefully spec to include at least the 9500M Graphics CPU.

At the moment, Asus, Toshiba and HP all have announced Centrino 2 models, and they're tempting alternatives - it would be good to have some confirmation from Dell that they also have something in the works, with a rough timescale for availability, given the leaked details of the Latitude Centrino 2 notebooks above.

Dell, even if you don't actually release or refresh with Centrino 2 within the next week or so, at least give us a range of when it will be so that we can know whether or not to wait or go to a different company.

oh...lol dont be so harsh, Dell are probably waiting for something, im sure they know better than you do, so their gonna do when they do it, its not in your hands, and complaining wont work in this case...they wont tell about when their releasing a refresh of the XPS line until a few weeks before their actual release date, so go off and buy an HP/Lenovo/Toshiba... Centrino 2, i rather wait for my XPS "Puma" Laptop...hope they dont delay it like this...

Yes! Please Dell! All we want is some information - a time frame. This is especially a problem for students going back to school. I need a new laptop and I've already decided on an XPS but I feel like I'm obligated to wait for Centrino 2 to be available...but if it's way too far into the school year then I should just order now.

I also agree, as a student I am holding off my purchasing hoping a Centrino 2 refresh is done before I start the next semester.

I say they should be built in on every laptop they sell.

mooreshelby, be mindful that building and shipping times often require 2-4 weeks, so make sure you have time before you head off to school!

I am also waiting for an XPS Notebook with Centrino 2, like j.aaron. A new laptop would be very nice. Samsung and other produceres has already notebooks wird centrino 2.

I find it strange that a month after the release of the Centrino 2 platform, Dell still has not refreshed the XPS range. As a result I am beginning to think that the Wall Street Journal was right when they said that Dell were going to phase out the XPS range in favor of their Alienware range. At the most critical time of the year for the consumer range(back to school period) there has been little activity or comments from Dell, they have today launched the new Latitude notebooks and lo and behold they are offering the Centrino 2 platform. So I expect XPS will be consigned to history shortly in favor of Alienware.

Just noted that the Centrino 2 Latitude range is available from the Dell US and UK sites. E6500 with P9500 looks reasonable but has a workstation Quadro graphics card.

Apparently comments made at the US launch event implied the XPS range will be dropped with the 'Studio' range and Alienware Lapotps expanding to fill this gap, but it is not at all clear what is happening in the short term.

So, Dell - are you going to release a Centrino 2 based XPS with G96 based graphics ?

Well Dell has confirm today that they intend to "Kill off" the XPS range of laptops in favour of their Inspiron, Studio and Alienware. This was confirmed by Mark Jarvis, head of Dell's worldwide marketing.

So unfortunately there is not going to be a Centrino 2 refresh of the XPS range.

I am really disappointed. I have nothing against consolidating brands etc. but if the M1530 and M1330 as we know it we will disappear, not only are they very popular, look good and have a large following, ´they have recieved excellent press for Dells move in to creating something other than a box with lots of angles on it. Why destroy such a thing?

The alternative of the studio or Inspiron current range are not in the same league. Studios v XPS is not even a fair match. I may have to switch to another brand if my next laptop has to look like a studio or an Inspiron even if it does eventually get centrino 2.

Dell, at the moment it sounds like you're walking away from the XPS market and I'm seriously looking at competing products by Asus / Toshiba.

For example, Asus have the M50VM-AK005G which ticks all the right boxes for me - 15.4" screen, 9600 graphics, T9400 CPU + Blu-ray drive with 2 year warranty for £1,050 pre-order.

Your only offering in this space is a XPS 1530 with Blu ray disk for £1,119. So, the XPS costs more, for a lower spec CPU and Graphics card.

Hi , Im a professional artist, mostly my laptop is using on doing painting and relaxing with some cool game. i got a question, why dell go for ATI 3650 , obviously Nvidia 9600GT is faster ... school is opening, class is start. New project coming to me, new idea is on board, now what we wait is our new laptop.. XPS, Studio, inspire...watever, but we need new processor, i dont want to tell my boss/friend i got a new laptop with old processor, doesnt make sense. .. pls

I think youve misunderstood this "dropping xps" claim. Dell are not completely dropping it, they are simply dropping the Mxxxx line of xps notebooks. The xps name will be put on the end of higher spec studio and inspiron machines.

Which makes me wonder if dell are planning to release studio and inspiron xps systems soon?
However considering they have moved to ATI for their graphics they will need a hd38xx series to make them high end, and with them not yet available maybe that is why dell hasnt released the new xps line yet? They may be waiting for ATI....
