Offer AMD systems with ATI video cards not just integrated graphics.

Offer video card options for AMD systems. not just inegrated This post mostly refers to the Vostro / Inspiron lines of notebooks but applies to all AMD based offerings. If DELL can use NVIDIA cards 8400, 8600, 8800 in their Intel systems why can't they use the better ATI cards in the Inspiron system. Those of us who prefer AMD want options too.

Yes jericho, Nvidia and AMD work better, still puzzled at the AMD buying ATI deal.

This is somewhat in line with my idea about an inexpensive, $499 system. Just because Vostro is supposed to be economical, doesn't mean it has to be cheap / worthless. We really don't want worthless. There's a market for budget items, but they still need to perform at a reasonable level. At a better level than the current offerings in that price range. Dollars spent on a decent (ie: nonintegrated) graphics card get a lot of mileage. Especially lets say compared to processor upgrades or dollars spent on Intel instead of AMD.

My reasons for being a fan are different perhaps distinctly different than others' reasons. Really, I was a 3DFX guy back in the day. I default to being an Nvidia purchaser right now only because nothing at all can top the 8800 GTX, 8800M GTX, or the 3500M. However, I want ATI to be able to compete very effectively in an open playing field so that it can help drop prices ! And, then, if ATI comes out ahead (ahem - again), then I'll jump ship forthwith!

Thanks everyone for the positive votes. I personaly prefer NVIDIA myself. I have 3 gaming systems in my home that I have built, all have AMD cpu and NVIDIA gpu, 2 x 7600gt 128m and 1 x 8600gt 512m. We also have 3 notebooks 2x1721, 1x1521, unfortunately with integrated video, only way to get AMD. AMD and NVIDIA do play well together. But as AMD has purchased ATI the best bet for AMD and a real video card in a notebook would apear to be ATI. Does anyone out there produce a notebook using AMD/NVIDIA?
