Have Michael Dell in the Dell Commercials

2999 points posted to Advertising and Marketing by carap 02/16/07

It would be really cool to have Michael appear in a commerical where the customer is shown ordering a system on line. Cut to - The door bell rings -Customer opens the door and Michael is standing there with their system.
YOU GOT A DELL!!

Sure. It may look really cool. But how do you top that next time?

Do it again - Saturation advertising for a week or so...

This has proven dangerous more often for companies than the successes. Consumers don't buy the CEO, they buy the product. Advertising companies will continue to offer and suggest it because they know who's paying the bill for an ego stroke.

Focus on the product, customer, and benefits.

Michael is very captivating in commercials, especially when he displays his intensity in listening and directing Dell Corporation to a successful return to No. 1.

Better yet, get someone to make a Michael Dell mask like that Burger King guy has. Then an actor can stand outside someone's door so when they come out to get the paper, the Michael Dell-head guy in a suit hands him a new laptop while some breathy spokesperson says "you're getting a Dell, sweetcheeks." Then, after the guy takes the laptop, the Michael Dell-head guy runs down the lawn and sets their mailbox on fire.
"YOU DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE!!!! YOU'VE GOT ELECTRONIC MAIL ON THE INTARWEB!!!"

This did not work for Ford why would it work for Dell. I agree with jvin248, people don't care about the CEO.

Hello Henri,

I totally disagree with you. How can people ignore the CEO & Chairman? It was only with his initiation and hardwork we are all into the scenario. He is a man to be adored and admired not ignored. What if Michael poses for a shot with people who benefit from MSDF like Katrina victims/ university students/ people who have gratitude for Dell????????????

then after handing the guy the laptop he rips off his suit to reveal a ninja suit and karate chops the guy/girl does a cartwheel and then throws one of those smoke bombs down and dissappears with an evil laugh. "dude, you got killed by a dell"

Petzymathuram, Go on the street and ask anyone if they know the name of the Dell CEO. Right now most people associate CEO's with large salaries that they do not deserve. Dell does good things and should be better about letting people know. Why would seeing the CEO in a commercial make me want to buy a Dell over a HP or Sony. It comes down to price for most people.

I wouldn't mind seeing this, but there would need to be a balance, the commercials couldn't be run constantly or people will grow tired of it just like they did with the Dell Dude.

I like Michael Dell's style and the way he seems really passionate about the company and the products he stands behind, hell, the day I decided to keep my Dell XPS system instead of doing a return was the day he returned as CEO of the company. Things seem to be looking up.

Hello Henri,

My God!!!!!!. If people know Dell they will be knowing / should know Michael by default. (similar to Ford cars, people who know a ford car know Henri Ford too) . It is upto the marketing department to sell more Dell and make more people know about Michael. The commercial needs a person.......Y can't it be Michael? People who know Michael will be happy, for others let it be just a person. So to conclude Michael can appear for a commercial......;-);-)

Hola,

Hello Jer,

You are right. Thanks a lot. Dell is known for it's unique style of doing things. As the saying goes " Winners don't do different things, they do things differently".

In Germany there is a coffee company called "Idee-Kaffee". The owner of the company does this kind of commercials for the last 20 (!) years.

I think it would be a great campaign. He is recognizable & respected around the world and I think having a person represent the comany (especially the founder) makes a company more personable than only showing thire logo.

Have Michael learn greetings in all the languages of the countries Dell sells in. Show a series of doors opening and each time it is him deliveing a smile, a greeting in their language and holding the customers Dell computer. Maybe even show architecture features behind Michael that helps identify the regions.

These may not be totally accurate, but you get the idea.

Bonjour, est ici votre ordinateur de Dell.
Hola, aquí está su computadora de Dell
Hallo, hier ist Ihr Dell Computer
Ciao, è qui il suo computer di Dell
Привет, вот - ваши Dell Computer
Oi, aqui está seu computador de Dell

Hmm not bad.........A good person needs to be appreciated. What about Indian lanuage? India is a multilingual country rich in tradition. India will expect Michael to speak in all 22 languages......;-) Is Michael ready? If so 3/4th of the commercial shot will have India featured ( time swallow).............Will it work out?

If I saw a smiling Michael delivering a computer to someones house in a commercial with some kind of catche phrase, I think it would be the funniest thing in the world. I'd DVR it just to play it back again and again and again.

I think it would be even cooler to call to order a computer and Micheal Dell is actually on the line. That would sell a computer.

Lets not get carried away. dell is a corporation that could do better.
Im just sick of the never-ending Microsoft OS increasingly using more system resourses and manufacturing PARTNERS like Dell working to have us spend more and more just so the darn thing works.

I like that only Michael needs to be seen holding a laptop running Linux, FreeBSD, or pc-bsd on it. As the door opens you should hear Michael talking on the phone say "B$ll, I told you , your operating system is just not up to par, we are not going to sell it." Michael then hangs up on b$ll, and tosses a windows vista cd into the trash. As the camera pans you then see Michael has a shirt with beastie, and our favorite penguin on it. The shirt could also have printed on it cd /local/pub && more beer
