XPS Gaming Commercial

401 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Gaming, XPS products by robq 02/16/07

We have been building around the Purely You commercial, and considering the new Dell.com/gaming website and the new gaming forums, how many new customers really know anything about it?

I think we should run a gaming type commercial, similar to the one I helped with last year for the Game Developer Conference(GDC).

Lets show customers who are interested in gaming just how versatile and powerful our XPS Gaming systems are. We have sponsorships with gaming teams which are already recognized in the gaming industry, maybe they could be part of the commercials.

I think this would be a tremendous boost for Dell in entering the gaming industry and advertise first for an OEM company around gaming.

What does everyone think?

Lets get psyched and go after that cool factor for Dell and XPS.

Thanks,
Rob Q.

Rob,

A simpler question is why Dell bought Alienware if XPS is supposed to be the "gaming" line?

Either roll XPS onto Alienware and make Alienware the "gaming" brand or do the reverse. Having both makes Dell look silly (competing against itself).

Lets take care of the existing customers first... 700/710 owners who need a mobo fix!

I think it would be awesome to make a "Purely You" commercial promoting the XPS line. I work in Dell's education segment and we've been running our K-12/Dell Intelligent Classroom like crazy. They've been running it all through the NCAA tournament and I've seen it run during the NBA Playoffs too. But let's be honest, who's more likely to be watching sporting events like that? Superintendents or PC Gamers? Dell should spend their marketing dollars a little more wisely. If you are going to spend money on commercials during those types of events, you should be targeting the 19-35 year old male market.. Gamers of course!

Here's an idea for the commercials tagline: When it comes to gaming, Dell has one goal in mind, PWNAGE!!

Then display the Dell logo on the last screen and then the words "For the Win" appear below the logo. Any serious gamer would instantly have a connection to those phrases and therefore the commercial itself.
