WUXGA Screens for 15.4" Laptops

468 points posted to Monitors and Displays, Laptops by kirupa 02/17/07

I was a longtime Inspiron user - having gone through the 5150 and 6000 variants because they provided great 15"/15.4" laptops with WUXGA screens. Will those screen options every be brought back for the 15.4" Inspirons?

Only the 17" models and the Latitude/Precision brands offer that screen now.

Cheers!

so true....i would buy an 15.4 WUXGA inspiron if they made it. Miss the inspiron 6000 days where you can buy a lowly Celeron and match it with a godly 15.4 1920x1200 matte lcd.

Ideal Inspiron e1505 I want to have today

2Ghz Core 2 Duo(4MB Cache, 667FSB)
2GB Ram
15.4 WUXGA matte LCD(not trueCrap)
7900GS Go 256MB
Hard Drive size I don't care
no optical drive, instead of it, dual batteries

Software: Ubuntu 7.04 with Beryl, and Vmware 6 beta

I agree with this. I have an Inspiron 8600 with this screen and want to replace it with a new Inspiron but can't get this size of screen

I won't buy a laptop with anything less than WUXGA resolution (1920x1200). And I don't want a big hulking 17" display.
In fact, I'd like a 14" WUXGA.

Offer WUXGA on all 15.4" laptops

One of the reasons which stops me from buying a laptop for myself is that I cannot get a 15.4" WUXGA screen. It is only offered on laptops that are in the business category. My work laptop is a M65, and I love the WUXGA, but it's too expensive for me to buy for home use.

I would like to have this option available for all laptops in the home and home office category.

Additionally, matte screen option would be nice. Not everybody likes the glossy screens.

Lastly, why is the 15.4" XPS screen resolution choices so pitiful? 1280x800? Isn't this supposed to be a high-end laptop for home users?!?
