BloatWare Uninstall- single click software remove

2784 points posted to Software by raymc 02/19/07

I understand the importance to Dell of the additional revenue stream collected from the suppliers of 'free' bundled software. So to shift the decision making process onto the customer, can Dell make the removal of such bundled software a single click choice 'remove bloatware' on first power-up of new products? Ergo Revenue stream retained and customer choice satisfied!

Or better still have only the installation files on the hard-disc and use a single-click to install them.
It often seems that once you've installed half a dozen apps in Windows, an uninstall will never get you back to a 'clean' machine.

This is the single most annoying part about new dell computers. If i'm not immediately going to install Ubuntu or client insists on keeping XP it's a 3 hour marathon of uninstalling to get rid of the (and lets be more than fair to it) crap software which is forced upon us. Honestly these machines are so slow out of the box anyone not knowledgable might think they need a new one as soon as they switch on!.

When finished being set up the average Dell laptop (if left as a windows box) has: OpenOffice.org, firefox, thunderbird (maybe), AVGfree antivirus. I also stop about 20 services which serve no purpose.

McAfee virus scanner on my Dell is a nightmare to remove and I still haven't done it even though I have all the instructions from the forums.
This isn't right.

Hate to break this to you folks, but the reason you are able to get that PC for such a low price, is because of the sponsor agreements Dell makes with those software companies.

No company (including Dell) is going to pay developers to rewrite a front end interface for the Add/Remove Programs functionality, it isn't profitable and the work involved is not justified for the time savings in regards to the end user. If clicking "remove" for each program is too big a hassle, use the OS media that came with your machine and perform a fresh installation.

sounds good to me, just make sure it cleans the junk it leaves in the registry ;
