No monitor

1360 points posted to Monitors and Displays by kushboy 02/19/07

One of the only reasons I won't even consider purchasing a computer from Dell is that I was told I could not purchase a system without also purchasing a monitor as well. I don't need a monitor, so don't make me buy one, and I won't.

This is especially annoying in an age when people now buy PCs with the idea of plugging them into their TVs!

This is a major annoyance - monitors often outlast the PC, and the VGA / DVI connection standards haven't changed, so come on, Dell - it's hardly environmentally responsible to force your customers to buy yet another monitor, if they don't need one. Please sort this out, to improve your "green" credentials !

*Other* suppliers seem perfectly happy to let you select "No Monitor"...

Always Let Me Select "No Monitor"

I have a monitor. One I bought from you. I don't want a new one with my new PC, I want to use the one I have.

You put the "no monitor" option as part of only some of your PCs. Please stop doing this.

Actually add a "No Monitor" option.

Why isn't there a "no monitor" option? Even where it says "Please select "No monitor" below if you plan on selecting a Large Display in the next section" there's no option.

u can select no monitor on most configurations but some configs. dont allow you to take off the monitor i.e. smart values and the upper level configurations so im promoting this because all configs should have that option of no monitor....

I would suggest that only 'special packages' would be exempt... after all, aren't they special BECAUSE they're a pre-configuration so Dell saves the cost of a custom order?

Some people buy a different brand monitor, phantom the thought!

Hopefully they tell people this? Some people think they need to buy the same brand so it works right, err...

a package deal is a package deal... if Dell chooses to offer such, I see no problem... you don't have to take it.

exactly and i mean usually if you get the packaged deal and it has the monitor usually it is cheaper than getting the same components or configuration without the monitor and heck if it saves u money take the monitor and sell it later on.... always remember simple problems usually have simple solutions

thanks

thanks but seriously thats what i did and i got over 200 dollars back on the monitor i didn't need and save well over 300 dollars on the system i wanted to i mean realistically dell does "smart values" and "pre-configured" systems for the customer more than they do it for the company because one thing most people do not realize is that they pick those configs and smart values based on what customers tend to order the most or what they are most likely to purchase and then discount them like crazy so more customers get the systems they actually want and yea so it has a monitor i said it once and ill say it again JUST SELL THE DARN THING IF YOU DONT NEED IT or if you have some extra space use the extra monitor as a dual set-up because if you really look at the config you are technically getting the monitor for free or very little money....

thanks thats all for now

Specially configured system advertised online or print media doesnt have the option to remove the monitor as these are low-margin package. However there are still systems that have the option to remove the monitor online.
