Remove metallic Windows sticker

11850 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops by bastos 02/21/07

The unremovable metallic "Vista capable" or "Designed for XP" sticker serves no purpose as soon as the laptop is in use by the end-user. Dell should design its notebooks to be sleek, stylish and simple -- and a permanent stickers is the exact opposite. This is (in part) why Apple sells the most stylish laptops, and why the one you buy is never as nice as the one you see in the promotional-pictures (no stickers!)

Replace the metallic sticker with an easily removable one !!! Dell should be large enough to stand up to Microsoft (who no doubt enforces the metal stickers).

Removed mine.. Was not easy and there is still a slight 'shadow' effect from where the were. A friend got a Toshiba and I could barely tell there was a computer there under all the stickers telling me what was under the hood. Laptops are like cars from a few years ago - DOHC! Turbo! ABS! AWD! ESP! SEAT BELTS! STEERING WHEEL!

This is the first thing I do when I buy a new computer : removing theses ugli and useless stickers !

I think the vendors get a kickback for each one of those, possibly making the system cheaper. Anyway, I removed mine. Not too hard to do.

Remove it and instead of dropping it in the trashcan, paste it *ON* the trashcan, that's where it belongs.

Or better yet, let your 5 year old son decorate your computer with his favorite selection of Barney Stickers.

Thats a really really good idea.
I may try removing it - but it looks really stuck! And i hate it when I can't remove the stickers clean in one shot.

I would really love to have a PC with a really sleek design... which of course can't be achieved with these ugly stickers. If possible, don't just make the stickers removable : don't even put them !

Just remove it, there must be a cost associated with adding them and nobody is prepared to pay for having your computer look ugly

Even worse than the sticker itself is the implication that the machine with the "Designed for Microsoft" sticker may indeed have been designed for Microsoft.

I'd be pretty wary of running Oracle, for example, on such a machine considering that Microsoft has a vested interest in seeing Oracle fail.

I managed to remove the stickers from my laptop. They didn't leave a mark, but I guess that if you leave them on for a few months and then remove them there may be a mark left.

The stickers now adorn my bin!

@impala "I think the vendors get a kickback for each one of those, possibly making the system cheaper"

Then why are HP systems $1 cheaper without the sticker.

Good link, reg! Decorative case badges! :) I would've liked a badge which shows the 3 finger salute. ;) You know what I mean, right?

I'm torn between the Penguin Case Badge, and the PANIC! button, though I would rather have a Don't Panic! Douglas Adams button...

Removed my XP READY sticker with Go Gone and replaced it with an old TR80 emblem that says 48K. Gotta have fun with your own property. I've a nice ATARI 400 emblem waiting my next compter, then a TI 99/4A emblem.

The computer is ugly already (please support the suggestions to make Dell design more beautiful laptops) - we don't need Windows and Intel stickers to make it worse - and probably people who bought the thing already know that Windows is inside? So what is it really - information for people who are stealing computers :-)

Only stickers that are ok, are the ones I put on it - Dell could throw a bunch of different stickers in the box and I will choose which ones will be on my laptop - if any!
