The world leading x51v WM5 device is only now being bettered by HTC's future "Advantage” PDA / Smartphone matching the Axim 624 MHz power etc 2 years after the party started by Dell's forward thinking product!

Yes it may need to have GPS, EDGE, 3G etc to survive as a Smartphone in this mobile obsessed times but it can be done & the current Axim users will appreciate your efforts into the WM6 platform by buying your products if you reward their loyalty.

Obviously this may be previous if you’re not killing the Axim but most forums think you are so hence this post.

I'm presuming it's a given on the two slots [CF/SD] staying in any of it's incarnations above as we have grown attached to their functionality as is also the case with BT & WiFi. Does much have to change for the Axim x51v to change to bring in inline with the soon to be released crop of WM6 units, I think not if the HTC WM6 units are any thing to go by. Heck the iPhone would also have some way to go to beat my current Axim x51v + Audiovox RTM 8000p voice & data CF card for phone usage. Plus don't get me started on all the add-on projects we at sites like aximsite.com have shared like afarre's X51V & Aximizer as Carputer: http://afarreAximCarputer.notlong.com & the Ratoc.com USB host controller CF card that allows me to use a 169 GB Seagate 2.5" HD portable battery caddy for ALL my media needs at home & on the go & soon a Logitech webcam!

pawpals 03/07/07	Give options, please. A basic Axim PDA, add either unlocked phone, camera, gps or whatever combination pleases. I am one of those PDA, just a PDA, persons, but I understand others wanting to converge devices.
uzziah0 04/25/07	The Axim is a solid device, one of the best PDAs around. I have been using my X5 since March 2003, and it is going like a rock. It is a VERY reliable device. I have been tempted each time a new device comes out to get a new one, but cannot justify it (quite). I was very close with the x51v, because of the VGA. I checked the price every couple of months. I believe Axims should be continued as the best PDAs on the market.

jballard 04/25/07	Please do not kill the Axim X51v. I have owned 7 PDAs over the past 5 years. The Axim x51v is far the best due to the features. I do not want a phone PDA because there are none that have the same features (or even close) to the x51v. I did have my x51v upgraded to 128M memory and it fills all my needs. Please reconsider the decision to discontinue production.

v12vanquish 04/25/07	Dell you guys have a great product , Why are you killing it off? I used to be a Palm OS guy , then switch to WM and had a blast on my X51 (520) Its still the only PDA i feel is rock solid like my old Clie. Dont kill a great product.

billkw 04/25/07	Why not continue with the Axim line (X51v and timely hardware upgrades and future generation products)? Yes, keep the convergence folks very happy by providing an unparalleled product for them -- especially since they far outnumber us PDA-only people -- but make their convergent device available to PDA-only folks but without the phone, for heaven's sake! Use the same assembly line, just leave a few things out to make it less expensive and more useful to PDA lovers and convergent device haters. Have one product available in various configurations, and you can please just about everyone. Right? Meanwhile, I search the various news and rumor sites for something that might be offered in the near future (even if only just before the holidays) from any manufacturer. The Nokia N800 looks very interesting, but they leave out PIM capabilities for all intents and purposes, and one has to look for open-source software to come close to offering what one can get in their Axim, or what have you. One more time: make just one basic device in different configurations, or rather, make an everything-included device that can also be offered with everything but the phone! Please, Dell. Or somebody!

mkj1701 04/26/07	This device is so useful to me that it is used every day. I would be very interested in an upgrade to a converged device if it has all the advantages of the X51V plus. The speed and capacity of the current device outshines almost all others in its present form but adding phone, GPS and USB capability would push me to buy.

1-shot 04/26/07	Agree with all above. I bought my wife an Axim and have used it so much that I now want one myself. I would use as a stand alone, or with integrated phone. GPS is a nice to have not need to have for me as I don't mind an external bluetooth receiver. Don't know what is driving the decision to scrub this product, assuming $$$$, but I for one would support a new Axim and hope these comments help to preserve the product.

pcguy 04/27/07	Please do not kill the Axim. I have owned every model of Axim up to my X51V. I will own my X51V forever if there isn't a follow-up product. I realize the buzzword is "convergence" and combing all portable devices into one but I think there are a lot of folks out there that don't want that. Combining these devices results in compromises in each of the roles it fills. For instance, using GPS on my VGA Axim versus on a cell phone screen is like night and day and the cell phone can't compare. Same with movies, multimedia, etc.

birkoff 04/27/07	I dont want a smartphone, the phone should make calls and i want to use it anytime everywhere.,.. my PDA is for business, i dont want to carry it everytime... Thats why I need separate cellphone and PDA, and many other ppl too... Soo, please, keep the best PDA aliveee!
bilyth 04/28/07	I agree. i love my axim x30 (i like its size/thinness & wieght also compared to the newer x50s)...i hope dell will keep the axim & aim for a smaller & thinner machine!!! thanks dell...such a great product at great value.
rthomas 04/28/07	My axim x51v has been fantastic, and if it were to go belly up today, i would probably by another one...unless of course Dell had a newer updated model with more features. Love the big VGA screen, and might by one with phone as well, but happy to keep them separate if need be
clayton 04/28/07	I have been using my Axim X51v for the last year. It is a inseparable part of my daily life. PDAs/Smartphones are still viable form factor.
changeling 04/29/07	I agree with everything said about KEEPING the Axim. And I can guarrantee you that there are many more who would like to see the Axim continued but will never find this website to post/vote in favor of its continuation.
cluricaune 04/30/07	I have been using my X50V for years and have it with me where ever I go. The Axim product line should be continued as it is the best out there. My preference would be for a straight PDA without the smartphone bits. That way you are independent of any company/contracts. A cheap phone and a good PDA are better then an expensive phone with an expense contract and a few PDA functions thrown in.
brupub 04/30/07	I have been using Dell Axims commercially for several years, the PDA's were quality units with good battery life and a very solid OS until win mobile 5.0. The x30 was and still is the best unit available anywhere, it's only drawback was the lack of 2 memory slots. We miss it.
minerva 05/01/07	I can't believe Dell is thinking of killing off the Axim. The Axim X50v was way ahead of its time when it was launched and the X51v still beats almost every comparable device on the market in terms of specifications. Dell simply hasn't marketed this product in the right way. There are plenty of killer apps, whether you need to edit Microsoft documents on the go, use e-mail, play games (I still play Age of Empires regularly on mine, but some of the more recently-released games look fantastic), watch videos, play MP3 tracks... If young people are willing to spend a couple of hundred dollars (or pounds here in the UK!) on an MP3 player or a portable video player, I am sure they could have been persuaded to buy an Axim. Instead Dell seems to have concentrated on selling to business users followed by the mature home user market as an after-thought. What a wasted opportunity! And why does Dell have to be so secretive about its intentions in relation to the mobile platform? Whilst I realise that it does not want to give too much away to its competitors, Dell does not seem to grasp that informing its loyal customer base what products people can look forward to, at least in general terms, would help maintain the brand and encourage people not to look elsewhere. Come on, Dell, save the Axim, develop it (how about the latest Winmobile 6 OS) and market it properly!
amadha 05/07/07	Keep this line alive! Don't kill it, evolve it! I'd like to see an Axim with a standard USB connection, GPS, wireless 'g', stereo FM radio (with automatic record), and a phone that switches from wireless IP to cellular calling based on a user assigned protocol. Build the thing to accept a stereo headset (for listening to tunes or the radio and taking calls, tethered or not, and sell replacements), keep the form factor {critical), ensure the PIM functions are available while the phone is in use (ergo the headset) then you could set appointments, read/take notes, or see contact information while on the phone. You can't do this with any of the current devices on the market. Dell, you got problems and its easy to see why... you've let the accountants take over. Get back to quality engineering and innovative products at incredible prices. Maybe change your executive compensation incentives from share price to market share and defect counts. Both up or both down, compensation bad, share up/defects down compensation good, and the inverse: find a new job - you're fired! Bottom line: it is time Dell got around to inspiration and innovation in its product lines and out from the "sames as theirs but cheaper" mentality. Yeah, that was good last year but that's not enough anymore. Axim was a great example of this and you've cut it loose this is good business for the short term, but not so bright for the long term as I'm sure you'll discover!
devwild 06/17/07	I do not want a smartphone. I have no need for it. I love my X50v - it was a great example of what PDA design could be.
