Do what AMD did to ATI: Buy out AMD

230 points posted to Dell by shams 02/23/07

Financially-struggling AMD is desperate; buy them for cheap. The consolidation will help cut parts expense. Transfer the savings over to the customer. Now you'd have a great product at a real competitive price.

I didnt know there struggling dam intel buy out intel and the sell it to AMD to make better CPUs haha. I h8 intel just wait till a real quad core CPU not a dual dual core CPU like intels wannabe quad core.

I didnt know AMD was struggling. It would just be better if they purchased AMD CPUs. They cost a fraction of the cost that Intel CPUs do and outperform them in so many ways it is not even funny, and even use a fraction of the power that the Intel CPUs do too. Their notebooks would last a LOT longer between recharges using AMD CPUs.

I agree with kokuryu about the cost between amd and intel. ever sense my experience with an intel chip (caught fire) i have been building my own system (for 10 years now). I find that having an amd processor both increases the speed of my system and helps keep it running quieter because it demands less power from the PS. I have seen, used and thought of buying a dell but it all came down to speed, power, and heat and i built another pc. If dell offered more systems with an amd processor then they would gain another buyer. "ME"

FYI: ive also found that VISTA runs MUCH faster on my AMD system than it does on a system at the local retailer. Hint Hint GO AMD

AMD is not struggling.

AMD is struggling indeed.
The ATI buyout has left them with alot of debt and their ongoing battle with Intel over market share has weighed on their gross profit margin. As a matter of fact - the market value of their common stock dropped over 4% today alone...

I understand that we all have budgets but gaming to me is all about getting the best experience. If Dell were to make such a move, and stop offering Intel machines, they'd lose a lot of customers including myself. AMD has fallen, get over it and get back on an Intel. AMD is clearly falling behind on the CPU race, looking at their forward products I don't see them catching up any time soon, if ever. I've had AMD machines for 7 years, and still have AMD machines. Heck I still have ATi cards in AMD machines, but it runs like crap compared to a core 2 duo + nvidia monster. The AMD > ATi buyout left a bad taste in consumers mouths, particularly real gamers.

Basically if there arent anymore AMD CPUs im going Sun Microsystems haha. I despise intel there the worst processors AMD are working on faster CPUS that Intels Core2 and most gamers prefer AMD as im a gamer. AMD processors have better FPU (floating point units) meaning better calculations on by the smalest of numbers but this was in the athlons not in the newer XPs and 64s Intel will have caught up by now though Intel made there P4s 64 bit by using the same arichtecture as the Athlon 64s

I wish Dell would offer AMD processors for all their PowerEdge Server flavors.
1950 would be Intel, 1951 would be AMD.
2950 would be Intel, 2951 would be AMD.
I love the PowerEdge servers and I want the same design and options, but I want AMD so my Server room doesn't melt!

Rumble291: Intel licensed x86 architecture to AMD. AMD invented 64-bit on x86 architecture. Because of the licensing agreements, AMD had to (and gladly complied) with sharing the 64-bit enhancements to Intel (which Intel calls EM64T). Intel invented its own 64-bit architecture called Itanium... not quite as successful).
So, yes... Intel made their Pentiums with the same 64-bit architecture that the Athlons use... because AMD shared it to Intel to use as well.

i see I still dont like Intel and never will its only the architecture that AMD used. AMD are by far a better company than Intel. Intel made a mess of its 64 bit Pentiums anyways they came out way to late. Now Intel think they have a quad core and all the have done is stuck 2 dual cores together lol. Opteron's FTW!

In my opinion dell have to continue to sell amd component, it is cheap.
If you want the top, you know that you must look the intel component ;)
