Blue Balling Isn't Cool

Dell

You had a very good idea with www.dellideastorm.com. You knew that your company needed an injection of fresh ideas, and you recognized that there is an audience willing to tell you exactly what it wants.

However, as of late it seems more and more like you've missed the point of having a site like this. You can call it 'merging' or 'cleaning' or whatever, but in the end it still just censorship with a nicer title. What is the point of opening up a public forum for ideas if you're going to censor those which offer criticism or dissent? You should learn from the criticism, and see what you can do to improve from it.

Also, the superficial reasoning behind the dismissing of the pre-loaded linux idea is alarming. Even more alarming is that this followed a previous announcement of yours which made it sound like you supported of pre-loaded linux, and were seriously considering it. What gives with the big tease act?

You shot yourself in the foot Dell, I wonder if you're even going to try anything to regain some of the legitimacy you've lost.

Get it together Dell

I actually think they are trying to clean the clutter not censor crtics.

Indeed there was and continues to be clutter.

If there were a way to see ALL 'latest' submissions AS WELL AS to access only the latest within a CATEGORY, I think that could help reduce duplication, especially if the site had a categories tree that could be easily navigated.

Certainly there are too many separate "Install Linux", "Sell with NO OS", "Bundle free software", etc. entries.

VOTING should be the means to express these desires when the ENTRIES already exist!

While I support the ability of the user to receive their new computer with no OS or maybe to have a version of Linux pre-installed, all of you Linux - OpenSource fanatics have worn out your welcome here at Dell Idea Storm. I am fed up with all of the duplicate posts and seeing nothing but Linux and open source as the most popular threads. If Linux is so wonderful, then Linux consumers are certainly able to install it on their computer, if the hardware is certified to run a specific brand of Linux and they receive their computer with no OS installed.

I believe in a level playing field but the Linux - OpenSource supports have posted on numerous websites encouranging everyone to go vote for specific threads at IdeaStorm. I have an idea that what the Linux fanatics are trying to do is to use Idea Storm to convert the whole world to Linux. Idea Storm is not the proper place for marketing Linux to the world. I am NOT anti-Linux or Open Source but I am anti-fanatics trying to control this forum for the purposes of the fanatics's hidden agenda.

I would like to see Dell consolidate - merge threads with the same ideas and put the Linux - OpenSource threads in a separate area, so that the rest of us can read what other people are posting.

Linux fanatics need to get a life.

Calling people fanatics only fans flames... with your previous quality posts, lindahewitt, I'm a bit disappointed in you this time...

While, I haven't voted for any of the Linux posts, I can understand the need for competition. I am quite happy with Vista but can imagine that there would have been more innovation in it if Linux was more popular. As for this post I don't see Dell doing anything but cleaning things up. Why do we need so many posts about Linux? One or two about open source are enough. I have asked Dell to incorperate some of my posts into others to clean up this site and I don't care if my vote count goes down. This isn't a contest it is trying to get Dell to improve the company and products.
