Stop the TrueLife Madness!

First it was all the laptops and now even desktop screens are getting the TrueLife garbage (SP1908). Just keep the screens mat like they were - there was nothing wrong with it and the manufacturers had to screw with it.

TrueLife brings this terrible glare onto the screen that mat screens avoid. In stores, you see this fishbowl screensaver and you know why it looks good - because a real-life fishbowl is glossy! As soon as you try to get work done on these the glare is a big problem though.

Each manufacturer claims to have some anti-reflective coating, but they all look shiny. You know how to recognize something that is reflective: if it is shiny that means it is reflecting light, otherwise it would not look shiny. Please, please, please return to the mat screens!!!

03/28/07		 Have to agree with this one. Truelife ROCKS when watching a movie in a dark room or showing off your amazing laptop to friends, but for work it's annoying. Dell even sells a little $20 cleaning kit to keep it sparkling

03/28/07		 In an office environment with flourescent lighting, the glare can be problematic when you're working with an apt with a dark background. In a setting that uses incandescent lighting, they're actually quite good. Sunlight through windows doesn't present too much of a problem so long as it's indirect. When it's direct, the smudges on the screen and dust really show.

12/01/07		 I don't like truelife glossy screens either. Unfortunately, the weight of our opinion is fragmented over a number of submissions which basically say the same thing: please offer a matte screen option.

I suggest that we all vote for the story below, to show the measure of interest in non-truelife screens. I picked it because it is currently the "no-truelife" submission with the highest score.

May 1		 Thank you!!! I tried to voice my opinion to a Dell employee over the telephone and they basically told me that 'everyone likes these'... at which point I told the Dell employee that I would not buy ANY laptop with a reflective screen! It it hard to work on anything in a mirror, especially outdoors - it is impossible! BRING BACK THE MATTE SCREENS PLEASE!
