10 USB ports needed - Sooooo many devices!

I can't see 10 being reasonable for most people. Maybe it could be an added option in the form of an add on card?

Can you list 10 devices you'd run at any one time?

I'm swapping constantly with my:
-external HD
-iPod
-camera
-GPS
-webcam
-memory key(s)
-..what else...

But really it's tolerable with 4 ports.

You could buy an external USB hub to solve this problem.

Maybe you need something like this.

This is a good idea. When Dell dropped legacy ports (PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, parallel, serial) on its basic home desktop PCs, Dell did not increase the number of USB ports to compensate. Before it was 6 USB and 4 legacy, but now it's just 6 USB. Desktop PCs should have more than 6 USB ports if no legacy ports are included.

Most of DELL MT pc have 8 ports, plus some internal port.

You really need 10 ?

The Dell Dimension home systems have 6 external USB ports (with 4 in the rear), but this is not enough. Rear USB ports are best for permanently attached devices, and if you have a keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner, and web cam, the 4 in the back are not enough. The 2 in the front are best for temporary attached devices like your flash drive and camera. There should be at least 6 USB in the back. Why didn't Dell increase the number of USB ports after discontinuing the legacy ports (on basic home systems)?

keyboard

scanner

gaming controller

jthurman - a hub would be an option, however if i had 10 ports i would never need to disconnect any so a bud wouldn't be needed. however i agree with jervis961 - would be happy to pay for an additional card as an option, it just isn't at the moment

Some of the Dell USB Keyboards have a built in Hub with 2 ports, great for a mouse and a memory stick. Here is another LCD with 4 ports built in http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s... So that would add 6 ports, but use 2... so you would have 10 usb ports, on your standard 6 port system.

Dell also sells an optional card http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s... you can install which would give you 4 more external ports, and 1 internal. You just have to buy it as an accessory and manually install it. I would still recomment a Hub though. It would be cheeper, and won't take up the limited few PCI slots, but 1 of the 127 usb devices that you can plugin.

Get the iPod firewire connector and a hard drive with firewire as well so -2 USB ports needed. I'd hate to see your desk with all this attached. But a USB hub is what you really need because if you do have all this dangling from your computer you probably can't get to it and need the hub for easy access, assuming you're connecting and disconnecting as you use. I bet you break a USB port before long due to all the plugging and unplugging, not to mention stress of dangling all those cables off the motherboard provided ports.
