It would suffice, to post the interface description on the internet. Someone would write a driver. And the interface description doesn't contain anything about its technology it is just a "how do i tell it to..."

Ubuntu Drivers for Dell Printers

I have a Dell 922 all in one printer. It would be nice if I could use it with my new Dell desktop with Ubuntu. However, Ubuntu has no support for it. Maybe Dell could make Ubuntu drivers for their printers ???

Peace,

Bob

Please don't say "Ubuntu drivers", they are "Linux drivers" and Ubuntu is a GNU/Linux distribution!!!

Sorry Jorge. I didn't see your post. I did promote it though. :-)
Ebrahim, try not to be so dramatic. Of course Ubuntu drivers would be Linux Drivers, but this is Dell, and Dell sells Ubuntu computers, therefore I am more concerned with an Ubuntu specific solution vs. a solution that would work on all distros.

Peace,

Bob

Nice, but anyway they are Linux drivers ;).
Let's say "Linux drivers for your Ubuntu systems". OK?

I could agree to that. :-) I don't really see Dell caring too much about this issue. Perhaps Walmart, now that they are selling the $199 gPC, which uses gOS, which is based on Ubuntu, can pressure Lexmark, and some other companies to make Linux drivers. Dell seems more concerned about keeping their customers who use MS products happy then their Linux loving customers. I own a Dell, with Ubuntu, but my next PC will be home built, still with Ubuntu, Brother will be the manufacturer of my next printer, and Dell will no longer collect them high interest rates from my purchases. I vote with my wallet, as it should be, ignore what people want ... lose customers ...

Fortunately, Ubuntu includes a whole bunch of printer drivers with CUPS. However, it wouldn't be much work to include *all* the PPD's, say, on an "Supplemental Drivers" CD.

This idea is specific to Dell printers.

Does Dell really make their own printers or do they order them from someone like HP and just put their own casing on them to give the impression of a Dell Brand. I would think trying the HP drivers and see what happens.

If they use HP engines then its even easier for Dell because HP has all the PPD drivers already to go!

At least provide documentation so someone in the linux community can make a proper driver.
