Upgrade Precision M90 BIOS to support more use of 4GB RAM

320 points posted to Precision Workstations by solarcanine 06/18/07

Currently on my Precision M90 workstation, I have 4 GB of RAM installed. However, because the current BIOS doesn't support a better memory mapping system, in Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit), I only get the use of 3326 MB of the RAM.

Please release a BIOS update for the Precision M90 line to address this (no pun intended) and allow your high-end machine to provide more horsepower for your users that invested in that power.

Are you sure this is merely a BIOS limitation?
Is anyone certain that the M90 motherboard itself is even electrically capable of distinguishing addresses beyond 4Gig?
Could it support two 4Gig SDRAM boards?

I'm not sure at all - I'm hoping that by bringing this forth as an idea, we can finally get some answers to these types of questions, and hopefully some sort of satisfactory resolution that will allow us to make the fullest use possible of our workstation-class machines.

It is grouped with the business "Workstations". I'd expect it should run 8G or more. Maybe its time for Dell to make an M95.

I've just upgraded my Precision M90 to 4GB and only get 3,3GB. This is not what I expect from a "workstation" like notebook. Currently we have the same problems with the new Vostro 400 - but for them there seems to be a BIOS upgrade which provides access to the full 4GB. Please Dell, give us an update for the M90 as well so that we can at least use 4GB.
