-70 points posted to Healthcare by joanw 06/22/07 We are a DME company. I believe the healthcare to insurance to Medicare industry is fragmented. The HCPC codes for Medicare are not the same as some insurances, for example: BCBS. There should be universal codes for items, followed by all. Recently, in May of this year, the healthcare industry finally came up with NPI numbers. This is after going through UPIN numbers, separate numbers for Medicaid, etc. I believe a manufacture of an item should submit it to a central insurance-Medicare for coding before it is sold.
