Dell list out service requirements for you computer systems like auto makers do for cars.

Dell provide your customers with service interval requirements/recommendations for their computer systems. Much like auto makers list out service intervals for their automobiles, Dell list out required/recommended service intervals for computer systems!

??????? What do we need to do? To keep our computers in tip top shape! ????????

Dell here's your chance to not only help customers but have an angle to get customers to pay you do to the service! How ingenious! (of me) Imagine the revenue! It could pay for the Hummer in one week! And the Gas!

Hopefully the analogy is obvious enough to not deter you guys from seeing the light!

Well better than a schedule would be computer who need no servicing at all :-)

But I know myself at least one thing I have to do regularly. With time I notice that the fan of my inspiron 8500 starts blowing much earlier and stays at top speed for longer and also for lighter tasks. For some time I even experienced shut downs when doing heavy computation for long time. Reason: Between the fan and the heat sink grid dust collects which reduces air flow. Once removed, the computer stays cooler with much less fan action.

So my suggestion to Dell: Make a schedule as proposed by this idea. But as soon as you have it, start thinking about ways to remove items from the list, by building your computers in a way to avoid the need for the service items.

Although a good add claudio_ch, you can't have un-serviceable parts like fans because they will collect dust and who know what else no matter what and build up with time, unless they make a dust build up automatic remover?

1. Clean computer and blow out dust every 6 month (or have a professional do it)
2. Don't run Windows, but if you do then run anti virus software and keep it up to date, run anti spyware software and keep it up to date, defrag the hard drives, and visit windows update about once a week

Seriously, it's that easy

Big companies have a lot of computers of Dell. I think they are interested in this kind of service. Why not offer them some sort of maintenance system like you are talking about with most occurring problems, diagnostic tools, and advice on the number of spare parts they should have in stock. Think about ICT-companies that do the maintenance of computers of many other companies!

Thanks for the idea, jorge! We don't necessarily feel that this is well suited to the hardware industry at this time. However, this is a great idea, so we will certainly keep this in mind for the future.
