VitalKey

Hello! I was reading in the new issue of Readers Digest the interview with Mr. Dell. The quote about the problem with the way our medical system is running is a major issue. A small company in Richmond, VA is trying to deal with this problem, or at least the medical record side to it. The company's product is the VitalKey, a small USB thumb drive that contains all of your medical records, along with other vital records that would be essential if an emergency should ever occur. This drive can help prevent medical errors, and can become your voice if you are ever in any kind of accident that left you unable to speak, telling of any medicines, or allergies you may have that interfere with any kind of treatment essential to your health. This device is essential to you well being, as it eliminates the long wait for any medical records from scattered medical offices in an emergency, If anyone should like any more information about this product, the website is http://www.vitalkey.com/

Looks like we'll experience a rise in people with glaucoma in California (again).

The main issue is the lack of a common platform for the medical records. Each hospital has it's own system and they don't talk well to each other. We need a global standard for both text and images so that a 'credit-card' like card is all that we need. A swipe and an authorization code is all that is needed. In case of an emergency the doctor can override the code.
This card can hold your information from conception in the womb (with the DNA codes), through life (CT scan images and biopsy sections), to the grave....the card may get smaller though and become an implantable microscopic chip.

Here is a great link of Dr. Andy Grove of Intel with Charlie Rose,
discussing this issue.
