M1330 style in more sizes and colors

890 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products by kyliemanders 08/06/07

Nearly everyone appreciates the styling of the XPS M1330.

Why not make this look available across the board. Offer it up in 11", 15.4", 17" and 20" versions. Come up with additional colors.

Don't ruin the M1730 and put it in a tacky package like this: [image removed - not public information]

Ya they must be doing something it is not "public public" if you understand what i mean us people that search for answers and don't just wait for them to appear are people that are "supposily ahead of the public"
premcv

Sooo, we are ahead of the public, now, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

In Ways it is good we are basicly a "audience" of "Customers" that basicly are going to warn Dell of what could happen if they release this Horrible looking Pc.

Having seen the 1330 I was really expecting something special for the new 17" XPS. The Alienware 9750, nearest competitor, is infinitely better styled. Whoever deisgned the 1730 should be ashamed of themselves. I hope the illuminated keyboard is colour controllable
davmcn

that would be cool

Alienware systems have always been better styled and potrayed than the XPS. I would still suggest that now since Alienware is part of the Dell brand, Dell should trash out the present XPS range of systems and call the Alienware brand as the XPS-Alienware range of systems. That will be great!

And a little rework on the design. http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/65957

The red detailing on the sides of the top panel doesn't show reflections or any shading at all... it looks (badly) photoshopped in... I hope that it's a fake done with MacTac (adhesive sheets with faux-finish textures)

I'm keen on a 17" XPS that looks like the 1330. I'm keen on the m1730 (rumoured) specs... but if the m1730 really does look like that, it's simply not an option. I'll be embarrassed to be seen in public with it, and I do trade shows etc. with my notebook (XPS Gen 2, which gets oohs and ahhhs) M1730 notebook if it looks like this... and I don't care for the alien eyes on the Alienware gear either... so I guess I have to go to Voodoo...

I would love to see a 15.4 and 17 inch version of the XPS1330. They would be perfect to compete with MACs: good performance features, North American support that answers the phone in less than 30 minutes and speaks English, compact design with display rotating down to save vertical space (ever used a notebook on an airplane? one of the time where I wished I had a MAC), and, ... and: the notebook would LOOK NICE. Not like this crazy picture of the 1730.

There is an obvious segment of the market to fill, and Dell is leaving it all to Apple with their MACs. None of the Inspiron (32 bit / cheap), Vostro (ugly / business notebook with no docking station), or Precision (no web cam, VGA out / no DVI on the new M4300...) meet the needs. And that need is a XPS 1330 ergonomic system with larger display, high performance features, DVI out, and looks I can afford to show in a business meeting. Price is not an issue.

Well, I do not appreciate it, but I do appreciate the design of the past and current XPS 17" notebooks.

Earlier designs were quite good. But I hope the 1730 is not going to look like that.

Right, premcv. But, remember that the M1730 is not "current" as it is not yet available for sale...in other words, I would naturally classify it as "future". I meant the "current" XPS 17" (the M1710) and the past PCs (the Generation 2 and M170, but not M1710).
premcv
08/10/07
No it is not current, we can keep speculating! That's a reason, why I did indicate that it could be a rumour, since I don't necessarily trust the report at endgadget with the image, when I saw it. Since, I know that the XPS is a pretty good design otherwise.

I completely agree with nicopoon I think that XPS M1730 should look like M1330 and it would be great to have color choice. I cannot understand who could design such a horrible looking M1730 it is one of the worse design I have ever seen.
I wouldn't like to ever buy M1730 (with that design).

Thanks, I ordered it directly from Dell. I see them popping up on eBay now too. I had lost faith so went to Best Buy and picked up a Vaio TZ150N/B. Guess I have 2 laptops now!

I love the M1330, especially the LED screen and overall profile. It's a bit small for me and I would hand over my $$ in a second if there were a 15" or 17" model available.

I do not appreciate it!

I just don't like the design of the XPS M1330 - black Dell circle on the lid, silver keyboard. Those two features of the M1330 are themselves enough to make me want to avoid it. That is not to mention that there is a number of other features of the 1330 that I don't like.

Well I did say "Nearly everyone". Plus they kind of reworked the Dell logo in their new TV ads - looks much better

kyliemanders: I am certainly not disputing that you said "nearly". I just wanted to note that I do not like the design, that is all.
