Graphics card switch

280 points posted to Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops by gogl 10/24/07

Put a hardware switch to turn on/off discrete graphics cards in notebooks that have them (along the lines of the Sony SZ line). That is, the notebook will have both a graphics card and embedded graphics, with the user able to switch between them. This allows users to have more graphics power when they need it and more battery power otherwise.

or just take out the integrated side and include more battery.

The integrated side is just a few chips on the motherboard, taking it out wouldn't add room for significantly more battery. Plus, battery is generally heavier/hotter, it's better to have a machine run more efficiently and only do what you want when you need it (e.g. turn on graphics when you want it, conserve power otherwise).
