On dell.com you describe computers as:

-home or office
-small, medium and large business
-for gamers
-for the public sector

Why not add some more adjectives like:

- IT professionals and power users
-Casual users
-Top of class
-Economy
-just for kids
-full house
-light
-portable
-RC (Recreational Computer)
-expandable
-Popular
-Luxury
-etc, etc

Not really, cosh. bb's got a good thought here. It's like websites that classify stories under multiple categories. THEN, you can search based on some -combination- of categories.

This would be especially good if Dell provided a facility where customers could search for the "ideal match" based on such criteria.

bb - sorry I 'piggybacked' on yours... seems I get most of MY ideas from reading others' ideas and comments!

jorge - give us the link to yours... you know how things get lost in the pile around here!

The PROBLEM I see (among others) is that an idea has visibility for awhile, Dell ignores it, WE lose track of it (heck, I lose track of MY OWN), but we STILL want to see it IMPLEMENTED.

I have recently purposely 'duplicated' suggestions (usually with some variation) PRIMARILY to get it to the top of the heap again... hoping beyond hope that eventually Dell will show some sign of RECOGNITION.

Ever feel as though you're STILL trying to take the pulse of a CORPSE???????

Adrenalin! Syringe of adrenalin direct to the heart, nurse!!

Ohhh... maybe we need to watch Frankenstein again.. just what WAS his method???? (storm, lightning... spare body parts...)

While we're at it, tho, guys... I, too, have just experienced my count soaring then dropping dramatically... it was near 4700 and this morning down to 4400's.... interesting. Don't THINK I've ever noticed that before.

The design right now is intuitive and filters first clicks.

Providing extra clutter subtracts from the experience.

The current Dell frontpage is simple and provides additional detail the further you delve in, or you can search for options.

That is the way websites should be. Too much clutter destroys sites and realize most people who are entering the Dell.com domain are not expert users. The more simplified the process is, the better. Too many options initially and people become frustrated and leave. Imagine if you called a phone line and had to listen to 30 prompt options before selecting?

Have to demote, sorry :(

There can be an "Icon"... like ...a person with a shopping cart...stating "May I help you"
Once an User clicks the Icon....it will lead them to a tabulation wherein all the above said details are enlisted.

The user can go ahead to click the tab of his choice. .......;)

Will this not be fine Ga Ga?

Hi Saz, This idea is meant for the "Online Sales " department and not for the phone support....;)

@ Petz, understood but the philosophy is the same. Too many options reduce the usability of the site.

If we have an "advanced" option like what you described, that shows more details, that's one way to go but the current layout works very well I think. Much better than before when there were so many choices.

Sugary Beary...."Options are options...we don"t loose anything if there's an excess of guidance/ info...but when guidance / info is short it is surely a matter of concern isn't it?....

It will help the Online Visitor to help him choose the system configuration that "mostly" meets his/ / her requirements. It will yet be another way to show the world that Dell Cares to each and every need of the customer isn't it?
what is your opinion Sugary Beary?.....;)

The icon thought is a good one. For example, I tend to begin to accumulate desktop links in XP... I _will_ delete some, but for those I use, but infrequently, I've created a "Misc" folder on the desktop & simply moved them there.

Drill-down is another way to provide additional detail without cluttering the interface...

The detail a customer is _looking for_ is not clutter, but it can be provided _without_ cluttering the interface.
