One account on the Dell site.

680 points posted to Dell Community, Dell Web Site by wiiboy12 11/22/07 **IN PROGRESS**

I have noticed that on the Dell site, I have 3 accounts (forum, ideastorm, and main site). I think maybe Dell should make it so that one can have one account for all of the Dell website. The only problem is the people who already have accounts. I haven't had much time to think on this, so feedback would be appreciated.

This would make life so so so so much easier. I think on Dell.com you even need a seperate account to write reviews and another to buy stuff. Does my head in. Needless repetition and duplication.

Well one problem would be is and let me know if i'm worng, some may not be regestered on the store, but in other places, because they want to give dell feedback nontheless.

so when you regesterer at ther store do you have to give ur persoanl info and cfedit card number? if so then this is a bad idea. but promoting nonetheless to make life easer

When you create an account with Dell on-line to buy stuff you can choose to store your credit card info with Dell or choose to re-enter it every time. Only contact details are stored by default. I choose the later method. Letting companies like Dell store these details in log-in accounts is how they are stolen by thieves. That's what happened to T K Max.

The problem Dell has with so many accounts is that we need at least one account for every website Dell operates. This is very annoying. Dell should keep everything nice and simple. Have one log in.

aikiwolfie: single sign on for all Dell properties is something being investigated. The lack of such is one reason we haven't enabled non-Dell people to edit the linux.dell.com/wiki pages - I don't want "yet another user database" to track, deal with email opt-in/opt-out preferences etc.

Kewl beans matt. Although the users profile will undoubtedly be more complicated with more fields to fill in I think it will make life much simpler for everybody. Including Dell. Sounds like there's a lot of work to do though. Good luck with it and feel free to take the weekends off. ;o)

This has been asked for several times so it needs to be repeated. I think they will implement this in the year 2020 after they open the new Dell store on the moon.

This seems like a dupe of

where I commented about this.

Absolutely this is a goal. We are working with the Dell IT teams to secure a single sign on application that will solve this. The implementation of this includes several steps and we are about half way through the process.

Changed status to **IN PROGRESS**.

As matt_d and jackie_c said, single sign on is a feature that the Dell Community is working on implementing. Look for more details in the coming months!

The transition will be challenging, but in the long run it will make everyone happier and be easier for the Dell people to manage. Thanks for telling us about this.

Why can't Dell implement something like the Compiz-fusion forum? It does everything Dells community sites do all rolled into a single forum. Unless there's an issue about preserving the existing community databases I can't understand why Dell are making such a meal out of this.

Dell Community, Dell Ideastorm Dell Website Make 1 account do all.

Now heres the idea, if you make 1 account with dell you can use it all over the dell website.

Not finished yet, the more active the dell user on the dell website the more promotional offers or a dell discount offered for example:

On the dell community forum:

Create discounts on 2 systems purchased per year for users:

Platinum ~10%
Diamond ~5%
Gold ~2.5%
Silver ~1%

Therefore people are more willing to help on the dell forums and less support is needed in india and thereefore the systems can be cheaper and that pays for the discount.

Dell is primarily an online company, and should be trying to promote online support via forums opposed to tedious phone calls. This would encourage the forums to be more active.

I actually agree with this. Support via e-mail has always been far less stressful than support via the phone.
