Preinstall Windows Defender on Windows XP Systems

-190 points posted to Operating Systems, Software by obyone89 11/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Just as you offer the freely available Adobe Reader to be preinstalled on systems, offer the freely available Windows Defender spyware protection software as an option to your customers in addition to the products from Symantec and McAfee that must be paid for. Windows Defender works quite well and is better than nothing as a form a malware protection. It's already part of Windows Vista so why not allow Windows XP customers to get it preinstalled.

Nope, if you want it, you install it your self, its still trail ware. Reason why it comes with vista, is because its already part, and even then people will use their own 3rd party

There's plenty of 'trial ware' that's MORE reliable than proprietary final release!

Windows defender is a fairly good program. I use it and install it on other machines.

it is inefficient and so useless. It would be better to install spybot or ad aware.

I have Windows Defender on my XP installation. It takes forever to scan anything. I use it mainly to flush things out. Windows Defender will access a file, activate the virus, trojan or whatever in the process, still find nothing, but luckily my anti-virus software is fairly good. When stealthy virus code is activated by Windows Defender, my anti-virus software pounces on it and kills it dead.

STOMP!!! STOMP!!! STOMP!!! ... Dead virus code.

Under review? How did that happen? We voted it down by an overwhelming majority! I count -180 points as the result of 36 votes. 27 against and only "9" for. What was the point to the voting system? Votes don't seem to count?

@aikiwolfie: Here is an explanation of Status Tags. This may help clear up your question? Votes do count, but we have been asked so many times to let everyone know if we look at the ideas or not. Let me know if you have questions!

In this day and age, I prefer running a few spyware, adaware removal programs. No one program finds everything. My main program is Webroot Spysweeper. Then I run a couple of others, including Windows Defender.
