XPS M1530 Led Monitor lighting

1680 points posted to Monitors and Displays, XPS products by valerio.gioia 12/27/07

Led lighting for XPS M1530 displays would be a really interesting option. Many people would choose that display since there is less power consumption and led life is really higher than CCFL tubes!

Dell already plans to release a LED screen for the xps m1530. This information has been available for a couple of months now. It is already listed in their current spec sheets and should be 1440x900 resolution. The release is estimated some time in Q1. No exact dates have been given. Although, power savings from the CCFL panels is minimal, there will be extended life from the LED technology. It should offer a slightly thinner profile(hardly noticeable) but will also probably have a hefty increase in price as well.

I'm interested in leds because I often use my notebook 10+ hours/day and after a year my actual display is really dark!

ok but the LED screen will be expensive plus the integrated camera 2mp will not be included in it

You're not forced to buy it. Just select the CCFL option and save money!

I don't see where is the problem - if I want more, I pay more. If you want less, pay less. I just ask to add the LED option, not to remove CCFL displays!

will the backlit LED display only be available for the 1440x900 resolution? I really like the higher res option and was hoping that they'd come out with the LED version of that one? Is that not possible?

@ expatinasia - Are you sure you haven't got that around the wrong way? Every report I've read on this subject claims LED's have a much longer life than CCFL's

"The new generation of high-bright LEDs (HBLEDs) provides higher brightness, as well as higher reliability, higher efficiency (lumens/watt), better dimming, longer life, and operation over a wider temperature range than do CCFLs."

The latest rumor is that the LED monitors that dell has planned for these will be released in Early February. If correct, the wait won't be too much longer. For those of you that have never seen the spec sheet for the m1530, you will find the LED listed here. The information has been available for quite a while

lol, i've already purchased mine. They've had great promos I just couldn't bypass. Want to bet those promos dissapear when the LED and penryn drop. =) Actually, they already have an XPS m1530 product (RED) edition available for purchase with the penryn. I saw the link and configured one several days ago.

I just hope they're sensible enough to put in a wide range of brightness options like they did with the 1330 ( which actually needs one more lower brightness setting, but is pretty good ).

I love LED backlit panels and won't be going back to CCFL. I just wish the laptop panels weren't so "cold" and blue; I have to apply a big bias in the LUT to get them closer to SRGB D65 .

well, so much for those penryn processors in the product (red) line at this time. Dell made an official announcment today and the configurations don't have the penryn. I used a link several days ago that had the T8xxx chips available, it has mysteriously dissapeared.

Dell are playing games with everyone regarding the LED backlit screens. First they leak info about the "upcoming" XPS m1530 last year saying it will be an option but where is it? They have done the same thing again, leaking info and pics about the soon to be released E series Latitudes and again " all will have LED backlit screens". Lets see. All this is just to make headlines. They could have released this screen by now for the 1530 if they wanted to but have chosen not to. They are waiting till the initial sales rate drops or competitors release serious competitors. Until then we all have to wait.

XPS M1530

The PC is a powerhouse and it has a great design! That being said I can't justify getting this machine until a LED backlit display is added as an option.
