Using more AMD Processors & AMD Gaming Platforms for XPS Desktops

200 points posted to Dell, Desktops, Gaming, XPS products by fahdriyami Jan 9

Dell seems to lack using AMD processors and mostly stick with Intels, now, Intel processors are powerfull and overclockable, but somehow they seem to lack reliablity in the long run. Intel have just released their new line of 45nm processors which require less power.
AMD have just released their 65nm processors (Phenom) series but there was a bug in the L3 cache. This is to be fixed in the 1st quarter of 2008 following the release of 45nm Phenoms, i suggest that Dell takes advantage of AMD's new true Quad core processor as it is very powerfull and also has less power consumption (thats what Dell is aiming for), and could easily Overclock safely by using AMD OverDrive technology. Also AMD's QuadFX gaming/enthusiast platform should be used to ensure high performance for Dell XPS Gaming Desktops, with the QuadFX Platform, you could have a total of eight cores with two Phenom Processors both at 3.0GHz. That would be great for next generation games. The only motherboard for this platform is the Asus L1N64-SLI WS (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=136&l3=486&l4=0&model=1530&modelmenu=1) Also AMD's new "Spider" Platform is a unique gming platform that combines AMD Phenom, AMD 7-Series Chipset and ATI's 3000 Series Graphic Cards creating the Ultimate Gaming machine, which should be a bonus for the XPS Gamig line.

it depends on dell, i think in my own opinion i still go for Intel penyryn processors right now well AMD has good products to but still AMD has a problem with their phenom 9500 thats for the destop line , overall it depends on the user either he chooses INTEL or AMD

I disagree. XPS are their highest-end systems, and Intel makes the highest-end processors. Why would Dell want to eliminate Intel on the XPS line? Or add AMD to the list, why would Dell want to do that either?

overall i go for INTEL , AMD right now has a erata bug problem on their phenom

AMD Phenom has a bug in the L3 Cache and is going to be fixed this month or February 2008 following the release of new Phenoms (45nm) and new sockets will be introduced for the Phenom FX (Socket 1207FX+). Then AMD can strongly compare with Intel. As many reviews say that after the release of Phenom, Intel rushed into releasing new "Extreme" processor, the QX9650, so i dont expect it to be perfect.
Winoffice: you say it like AMD have low end processors, do more research and you'll prove yourself wrong.
Bryan14c: I do agree with you but as u said before it depends on the user...

Fahdriyami: "you say it like AMD have low end processors, do more research and you'll prove yourself wrong. "

I did not say at all that AMD has only low-end processors. I just said that Intel makes the higher-end processors. That does not mean that I said that AMD "have low end processors". In fact, I said nothing there about AMD at all.

winoffice: then why did u quote. "Or add AMD to the list, why would Dell want to do that either?", if you think that AMD dont have "only" low end processors? if now your suggesting that AMD do have high-end processors, why do you disagree if they were added to the list/options? please make yourself more clear.

And winoffice, i never said anything about eliminating Intel processors on the XPS line, if you read the title, it says: add "More" AMD processors, not "Eliminate Intel"...

fahdriyami: how can you be saying "More" AMD processors, when AMD processors are not offered at all (as far as I know on the XPS line)?

I thought you were meaning "eliminate" when I read "mostly stick with Intels", probably because I misunderstood that and was led to the thought that you want Dell to stop "sticking with Intel" (that is, "break away" from Intel).

And fahdriyami, I meant that Intel makes the higher-end processors (that is, AMD processors are not necessarily low-end, just that Intel processors are high-end to a greater degree than AMD processors are), and that Dell would therefore want to stick with Intel (as making the higher-end processors) on their XPS systems (which are probably the highest-end PCs of Dell).

winoffice: the XPS 210 used to include an AMD Athlon X2 Dual core processor, but that was just an option that was removed. In 2008, Dell are looking for "Low Power Consuming Hardware" and "Performance". Intel offer High Performance but where is the low power comsumption...Intel's processors are power hungry. Like Nvidia, High performance than ATI but power hungry. AMD/ATI have also high performance hardware that dont require as much power as Intel or Nvidia.
And i didnt mean or say anything about "forgetting" Intel, but start using AMD processors.

i would like Dell to have both AMD and INTEL processor and let the user choose. Remember the customers (user) is always the biggest

indeed, i like Intel but i prefer AMD, its just cuz i think they are more reliable. But i would hate Dell if they eliminated Intel, i seriously will, but i just like choice as you said. Its nice to have choies even if ur gonna stick with one thing.

AMD will soon be releasing their Phenom 9700 again in Black Edition. That should be something good for AMD Gaming computers.
