e-Latitude like laptop in bright enclosure

Latitude products submitted by claudio_ch Mar 26

On March 22 engadget wrote about what they think the new Latitude E5000 and E6000 series will look like. Yummy specs, but why oh why all in black?

I hope to see something with the same spec as the D830 replacement in a "bright" enclosure like e.g. todays Inspirons. silverygrey keyboard and palm rest, colorful outside. Don't care wether it is branded Inspiron, XPS or Latitude as long as it looks "bright" and has all the yummy stuff of what engadget says the Latitude E6500 will have. 4 Comments »

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.

Design & Form Factor

Desktops and Laptops submitted by logi 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

This forum is a great idea to get Dell back to #1.

What I like to see is new and innovative styling across the board on notebooks and desktops. Dell's product line looks 5yrs old and needs a total refresh.

As you can see Apple Inc. is winning conumers hearts because Apple owners are actually proud of displaying them in the living rooms instead of hiding them. Get rid of that XPS desktop design that thing is so ugly.. and come up with something consumers would be proud of displying in their media rooms.

Also I would like to see Dell create a sleak new design for a media center box so we can utilize vista home for the entertainment room and display it next to my audio and video units.

Thanks for listening Mr. Dell.

Options for better GAMING graphic cards on the 15" inspirons for the gamers

Gaming, Inspiron products submitted by thejedimaster 04/24/07

Not everyone who wants to do gaming needs a 17" screen. And I understand the need to have the best on the big laptops, but why can't a 15" inspiron user have an option besides the x1400 card? Maybe an X1800 or X1900?..I'm talking about the E1505 and E1501... Comment »

Docking connector for Inspiron

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by ust 02/19/07

I would really like to have the option to connect my notebook from work (a Latitude) to a docking station at home, for home office use, and be able to use that very same docking station for my privately owned Inspiron.

DELL should offer the Inspiron notebooks with connectors for the Latitude Dockingstations, even if only as an option that must be paid for.

Technically this should be possible, as is proved by the Precision M90 which ist basically an Inspiron in disguise with a Latitude Dock connector.

Better LCD Resolution for Inspiron 1525

Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by taumax Jan 4

Why is the Inspiron 1525 only available with a 1280x800 LCD monitor?
That resolution is so low.

Come on guys, at least offer the option for WSXGA+ on it!

While you're at it try to package in a decent discrete graphics card too.

If Apple can do it, why can't you? 7 Comments »

What is missing: Inspiron 1720

Inspiron products, Linux, Operating Systems submitted by albano 08/16/07

URGENT:
RAID support. It is ridiculous that a two HD bay notebook does not offer this;
Gigabit Ethernet. I don’t believe that my wireless LAN is fastest that my wired LAN;
HDMI / DVI support. A notebook with Blue Ray without HDMI. No comments;
Nvidia 8700M GT. The Windows Vista Experience Index is limited by the 8600M GT.

Will be a must:
Choice of OS. All Vista and Linux;
Car power adapter accessory;
Backlight keyboard;
Fingerprint scanner;
A bigger battery. It’s a lot of space in the back of this notebook to attach a bigger battery. 6 Comments »

Docking Stations for Inspiron and XPS notebooks

Inspiron products, XPS products submitted by jlatham 06/22/07

These days with the proliferation of laptops on college campuses the utility of mediacenter laptops, such as Dell's Inspirons, is hampered by the absence of docking stations or port replicators designed to work seamlessly with these computers. Dell's makes them for Latitudes, but seems to overlook this vital portion of the market. Anyone who has ever used a docking station at work to connect periferals yearns to have one at home...or at school. 1 Comment »

MultiCard reader on Laptops should include a CF card reader.

Inspiron products submitted by benjesuit 04/02/07

The Mulicard reader currently on DELL Inpsirons cannot read CF cards.

Pity, since many high-end cameras still use CF cards. 5 Comments »

Offer AMD systems with ATI video cards not just integrated graphics.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, New Product Ideas submitted by ah1f Feb 6

Offer video card options for AMD systems. not just inegrated This post mostly refers to the Vostro / Inspiron lines of notebooks but applies to all AMD based offerings. If DELL can use NVIDIA cards 8400, 8600, 8800 in their Intel systems why can't they use the better ATI cards in the Inspiron system. Those of us who prefer AMD want options too. 5 Comments »

Inspiron Notebook Graphics Card Options Are LACKING...budget gamers VOTE to change!

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Gaming submitted by syrics06 11/21/07

Dell,

It wasn't but 2-YEARS ago when I purchased my Inspiron E1705. It came equipped with a Geforce Go 7900GS ($299.00 Option) which was perfect for gaming....Now, it wasn't near as fast as the Geforce Go7900GTX that was in the XPS line but it provided me with a good 'BUDGET' gaming computer.

I recently have been circling your website to find a similar budget/gaming configuration and have been unsuccessful. Why?

Dell only offers LOW END graphics cards like the Geforce 8400GS/GT & Geforce 8600GS/GT...Sure, they are DX10...but what good does that do if you can't even play a DX10 game at a reasonable framerate?

I mean C'MON DELL....A Geforce 8600GT in a 17" laptop? My 2-year old laptops graphics card is MUCH FASTER....Whats up here?

It seams you are forcing the budget gamers to either choose HORRIBLE FRAME-RATES or $2500.00+ XPS Systems that the performance will be doubled on in two months AKA - XPS 1730 w/ SLI 8700M - Being replaced in January with 8800M SLI...by the way...ONE 8800M is faster than the TWO 8700Ms....WONDERFUL...
so for those of you that just dropped close to $3,000.00...SIT COMFORTABLE KNOWING YOU ARE GOING TO BE DOUBLED ON IN JANUARY.

Budget gamers UNITE and VOTE 'YES' to "BETTER GRAPHICS CARD OPTIONS IN INSPIRON NOTEBOOKS".

Dell, all we want is the OPTION...even if it costs $300.00...let us atleast choose a SINGLE 8700M or 8800M GT in the 17" inspiron notebooks "desktop replacements".

Inspiron 1420 with NVIDIA 8600m GT 256mb

Gaming, Inspiron products submitted by npauly 11/24/07

Please offer the NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT 256mb as an option on the Inspiron 1420. Not all gamers want to lug around a 15 inch or 17 inch laptop.

Asus, Zepto, and BenQ all recently introduced 14 inch widescreen laptops that are configured similarly to Dell's Inspiron 1420 except that they come stock with the NVIDIA 8600m GT standard.

Dell needs to upgrade their 14 inch Inspiron laptop GPU options so they can remain competitive.

Inspiron 530 with Windows XP Pro and "DataSafe" for sale, on your Customize site ...

Inspiron products, Sales Strategies submitted by hal2001 Mar 22

Why can't we have DataSafe and Windows XP Pro brought back for sale in a customize Inspiron Computer, not everyone wants Vista or to be force to go to a higer price Dell model or business machine to get XP or RAID 1. I'm sure most of us in this site are well aware that Microsoft will be pulling the plug on XP, but XP and DataSafe are a perfect match and would sell! Give the customers a choice and give then what they want ...Let's go Dell ! 1 Comment »

DO something about the "click click" noise of laptop hard drives!!!

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by cestuila Mar 30

Hi,

Please Mr head of Dell Support, could you really do something about this noise?
I have it on my D630. But I know people have it on their XPS M1530, on their Inspiron 9400, and other brands have the same problem
( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=100609 )

No, this is not the hard drive indexing files. This is a specific horrible noise, a "click" that pops out once in a while, probably due to the HDD heads parking themselves.

Dell has already sent me another hard drive (Samsung 120GB hybrid in my case) but this hasn't changed anything.

Don't know if the problem comes from MS Windows, the hard drive's firmware or the Sata controller in Dell notebooks, but PLEASE do something!!! 73 Comments »

Give XPS Notebooks Gigabit Ethernet

XPS products submitted by croftki Feb 17

I understand that Dell market research says home users in general are not interested in gigabit ethernet for home networks. Those who pay for the premium design in the XPS line, however, are more likely to want gigabit ethernet. I would rather buy something more exciting than a business class notebook, but I want to build on my home technology with each purchase I make. XPS Notebooks unfortunately do not help me do this. It seems my only option is to buy a Latitude. 28 Comments »

Use magsafe power connectors

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon.

They are very cool and quite sensible.
