Offer an XPS 12" inch notebook Again

Sales Strategies, XPS products, Laptops submitted by nsenman May 16

I used to have the m1210 and m710 laptop notebooks and they were great machines to tote around. Include great specs like the m1210 had. give such things as a strong video card, HDMI, 1394, 3 or more USB ports, swivel webcam, fingerprint reader, etc. You created an awesome performing notebook in the m1210 but it wasn't stylish enough like the m1330. Create an awesome 12'' designer laptop and people will buy it. 7 Comments »

Offer Solid State Hard Drive with more Capacity and lower price

Servers and Storage, Desktops and Laptops submitted by nsenman May 16

I think solid state drives are way too overpriced and not large enough for the amount of storage people need now a days. People would love to have the 100+ GB of storage Hard Drives along with a less expensive price, comparable to the current SATA. 3 Comments »

Offset keyboard for 17" laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Vostro products, Laptops submitted by donut May 16

The new Vostro 1710 looks pretty good, but the keyboard positioning could be improved for the next design refresh. This also applies to other 17" laptops with numeric keypads.

With current models, the keyboard as a whole is centered on the laptop; the borders at the left and right edges are the same width. That means the main part of the keyboard (not the numeric keypad) is offset significantly to the left. The trackpad is also offset to the left. That results in a skewed typing position if the laptop is directly in front of you.

My idea is to have the keyboard mounted as far to the right as possible. The main part would of course still be offset to the left, but a little less so. Obviously the difference won't be huge, but even half an inch would be an improvement. The border to the left would then be wider, perhaps giving enough space for the indicator LEDs? If so, the function keys could then be made full size.

One other thing: The right side of the Caps Lock key could be made recessed/lower, to reduce the likelihood of accidentally pressing it instead of A. 6 Comments »

M1730 More USB Slots on the back.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by stormrider451 May 17

Hello there..

I currently own a M1730 and I think this computer is lacking in the USB department. It does have a total of four USB slots (one in back, two on the right and one in the left). But, I think one in the back is too little. Even my Inspiron E1405 has two USB slots on the back. I think the M1730 should have at least two slots in the back because this computer serves as a Desktop replacement for many people. And due to its relative lack of mobility, it usually stays put on the desk (as in my case). Therefore, the printer will be connected, and many other things will be connected to this computer at all times like a desktop usually is. Therefore, once that back USB is taken up by the printer, any other cabled device will have to go right on the side which looks aweful, the less cables you see plugged into your computer, the better.
So, I speak out of my own experience that the DELL should have at least 2, 3 or even 4 in the back. It ends up looking so ugly with the cables being plugged in the sides. 5 Comments »

Availability of LED LCD SCREENS in FRANCE and EUROPE

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by mdevoucoux May 17

I've alrady posted this idea but it wasn't very explicit :

LED Screens are available in US on the XPS M1530, but they're not in Europe.

Here in Europe we'd like to order a Dell XPS M1530 with an LED screen, given the benefits it provides compared to CCFL screens. Thousands customers expect an LED display is available for this model to order the computer.

DELL: you lose customers beacause LED Screen isn't available on the XPS M1530. I find it unfortunate that in Europe we can not choose the same components as the USA.

I appeal to DELL: Please, make LED screens available in Europe for the XPS M1530, we expect that to order them.

Please DELL users, promote my idea because DELL do as if we, European customers doesn't exist and let Led creens available only in the USA : you, americans and others people, be helpful with us.

Thanks 51 Comments »

Integrated WebCams on all UltraSharp Monitors

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays submitted by junior May 17

Dell should integrate webcams on the Ultra-Sharp monitors, sure the Ultra-Sharp monitors are used mostly for Business use but are desirable for gamers. Everybody likes these monitors because they can Tilt, Swivel and Pivot. If Dell cannot integrate a webcam into these Ultra-Sharp monitors, at least get the SP2008WFP and SP2208WFP 20" and 22" monitors to Tilt, Swivel, and Pivot. 6 Comments »

Offer more Linksys Wired and Wireless Routers for the Canadian webpage.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies submitted by junior May 17

I am not a fan of D-Link Routers, I am a fan of Linksys routers. When I am customizing and purchasing a Desktop, all I see is D-Link and Netgear routers. I trust Linksys routers. Dell, Please start offering Linksys routers when in the Dell Online Store Customization area. I don't want to buy a router at a retailer, I want to purchase it along with my Dell desktop in the comfort of Dell's website where it is cheaper to buy products. On the US webpage, I customized a desktop, and they offer a whole range of Linksys routers, please do the same for Canada's website. Maybe for every Dell Website in the world, this can be done. Use Latitude keyboard layout in Vostro laptops (standard Ins/Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDown position)

Inspiron products, Vostro products, Laptops submitted by donut May 17

Latitude laptops have a pretty nice key layout.

I think Vostro laptops, which are also business-oriented, should either use the exact same keyboard as Latitudes, or at least the same layout. The Vostro keyboard has several deficiencies compared with the Latitude ones.

For example the Latitude D830 keyboard here: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/imagebank/notebooks/lat_d830.jpg
(Warning: very large picture. If anyone has the URL for a picture with a more head-on view of the keyboard, please post here.)

The Ins, Del, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys are in the same 3x2 layout as a standard desktop PC keyboard, at the top right of the keyboard. So it will be easy to adapt between using a desktop keyboard and the laptop one.

Also, the right part of Caps Lock is recessed to reduce the chance of accidentally pressing it, and the cursor keys are the same size as letter keys. (It's not perfect though; who knows why the Windows menu key is at the top rather than to the right of the space bar?)

By comparison, see the Vostro 1710 keyboard here: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/imagebank/notebooks/vostro_171...
(Warning: another large picture)

Those six keys are in non-standard positions, in particular the PgUp, PgDown, Home and End keys are all on the bottom row underneath the numeric keypad. The Caps Lock key is not recessed, and the cursor keys are smaller than normal. (At least the Windows menu key is in the right place!) 2 Comments »

Monitors with flash memory reader

Advertising and Marketing, Monitors and Displays submitted by guindog May 18

Read a document in electronic format is everybody's day, but read a manual, one or two other web pages offline, a. PDF or a simple text file represents us use a PC (hardware and software) in the form complete. By that I mean that in addition to the tangible resources to which we must resort to establish the enabling environment for reading the document, we must add the time factor (waiting) they need so that they begin or charged. Not the least energy consumption.

But think about this; whether to read these documents the only thing that is used is the computer monitor and a soft that the interpreter ... is really necessary to use the rest of the hardware?

It would be extremely interesting that monitors have multiport reading of flash memory (pendrives, SD, microSD, MMC, Memory Stick, etc.) and a firmware to interpret the standard formats for electronic documents TXT, PDF, ODF, OOXML and HTML, and that they can be navigable by a small additional circular button (for example), as mobile phones have today.

Thank you once again .-

Dell Keyboard & Mouse

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by junior May 18

I see on Dell.com and Dell.ca that there is too much Dell branded Keyboards and Mice that are compatible with only a few Dell Notebooks and Desktops. Please fix this, make just one keyboard and mouse compatible with all systems offered by Dell.

like this:

Standard:
Dell USB Keyboard : Compatible with all systems
Dell Optical USB Mouse : Compatible with all systems

Optional:
Dell USB Enhanced Multimedia Keyboard : Compatible with all systems
Dell Premium Optical USB Mouse : Compatible with all systems
Dell Bluetooth Keyboard : Compatible with all systems with 13-1 and 19-1 Media card readers with Bluetooth
Dell Bluetooth Mouse ( Same compatibility as the Bluetooth Keyboard )

on Dell.ca, I see a Bluetooth Keyboard that is only compatible with select Dell Vostro desktops.

I mean make only one Dell USB Keyboard and One USB Enhanced Multimedia that is compatible with all systems from Optiplex, Vostro, Presicion, Inspiron, to XPS.

Delete all the advertised Dell-Branded keyboards and just make one that is compatible for all Systems.

I made this idea because I have a hard time looking for a Dell Bluetooth Keyboard for my XPS 630 that is compatible and I see there is still no Bluetooth Keyboard available for the XPS 630, all I see is Dell Keyboards and Mice that are compatible for select desktops.

Promote this if you agree. 2 Comments »

Duo PC

Desktops, New Product Ideas submitted by nkama May 18

I would like to share an idea I have thinking last time, about of creation of one PC with function of two PC's. I mean, one pc being used by two people with two different desktop and processing different data, just like people using two computer normally. This idea raised after noticing that many household face more and more need of buying two or more computers for the family members. And to me, woould sound better if your company produces a pc with function of two pc's and supplying information to two different monitors with their keyboard, and preferably a wireless pc and monitors as well the keyboards. These pc's could be used in the companies as well as in the offices.

With kind regards,

Have VGA port with locking nuts on all laptops, not just Latitudes

Laptops submitted by donut May 18

[This isn't about whether or not to have a 15-pin VGA port, but applies to laptops which do have one of those ports.]

The VGA port on Latitude laptops has holes for the locking screws on VGA cables, so the video cable can be securely fastened to the computer.

For some reason, some/most Inspiron and Vostro laptops don't have those, so it's not possible to securely attach a VGA cable to those laptops. Also, since most VGA cables have locking screws, over time the laptop casing next to the VGA connector could become damaged where the ends of the cable screws press against it. 1 Comment »

Simplify Customization Process

Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by delfmeek May 18

There are too many options when ordering a PC/Laptop. While choice is a good thing, I do not understand why Dell offers several memory configurations. The last time I ordered a desktop, I had 8 choices of memory configurations, for 1, 2, 3, or 4 gigabytes of a memory. I could get the 1,2,3, or 4 gigs of memory in 667 or 800 Mhz of memory. Why in the the world would I choose the 667 MHZ of memory, when less than $50 seperates me from the 800 MHZ option? eliminate the 667 MHZ memory module option, and just simplify it. I hate to say it, but Apple's website is super easy to configure---use that as a model. 4 Comments »
