Bring back the LAPTOP

Laptops submitted by falbert May 22

Please make a useable "laptop" ie:computer that you can put on your lap...

Make it cooler : I know we want more performance but you can find a way
Make it quieter by using silent fans and heat pipes
Place the air intakes on the sides not on the bottom. 5 Comments »

Offer a easy to print out PDF of your invoice

Service and Support submitted by ro_bro May 30

Right now, getting an invoice from dell when purchasing a desktop in my case is a mess. It's misaligned, and simply looks ugly.

Also, if I want to get an invoice, I have to go through this hoop of filling out information again (which makes no sense, since I have the order ID anyways, AND I'm logged in).

I propose that you provide an easy to read PDF file as an invoice after a purchase from Dell. That would make our lives easier as the consumer to just save that out as a receipt or to even print it out and file it. Right now, it's really ugly and looks unprofessional.

I've never seen a more convoluted order summary and invoice email than from Dell. 5 Comments »

show the picture of the actual mouse included

Dell Web Site submitted by ro_bro May 29

on your dell website for home, you can't see the picture of the actual mouse you're going to get. No matter what you select, you see a generic image of what seems like an old ps2 mouse.

Can we see what we're actually going to get?

Also, I like for example, tigerdirect.com. They actually have numerous pictures of what you're going to get, at different angles, etc. You see everything in the box.

I wish dell would do the same, or something similar, rather than showing generic images. 2 Comments »

Label the CDs with which models they affect

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Simplify IT submitted by djtansey May 20

Label the Resource CDs, and any other machine-specific CDs, with a list of which models it supports. This would make it much easier for IT departments to file their resource CDs for further use. 5 Comments »

Optical mice only please

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by falbert May 22

How come we can still get in 2008 mechanical mice. Come on guys, in 2008 there should be only optical mice available. Also please make it clear on the web site what people are purchasing. 26 Comments »

No more plastic wrap, please

Environment submitted by falbert May 22

In the last shipment of computers I received I was shocked by the amount of plastic wrap used for items like power cords, USB cables, VGA/DVI cables. Do these items really need to be individually wrapped in a plastic bag. I can just imagine the tons of plastic used by Dell annually...

Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser

Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**

Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF.
Firefox advocates at Dell have initiated discussions and driven action around exploring alternative internet browsers and experiences. As you can tell from our response to the Linux community, open source continues to be a part of our conversations about new products and services.

Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself.
On XPS Notebooks... you are charging $500 for 4GB of ram... when you could easily go pick them up at your local computer shop for $250... and pocket the other half of the $500...

It would be nice if dell could save the customers as well as the company itself this hassle.. and start charging NORMAL prices for an upgrade in RAM.

thanks =D

PS..... PROMOTE THIS!!!!

Use magsafe power connectors

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon.

They are very cool and quite sensible.

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.
