Laptop Power submitted by busterlee Feb 28 Dell should include battery modules (dummies) which are equivalent to travel module and prevent the battery pins from being damaged from exposure when people use the adapter to power the laptop. 5 Comments » Operating Systems, Desktops and Laptops submitted by winoffice Feb 24
(Note to XP and Linux users: I am not against Dell offering XP and Linux as well, but this idea is specifically about Vista.) On/Off Button For Touchpad On All Laptops Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by harisn9000 Feb 28
I'd really like to see Dell release a touch pad that has a simple on/off button. I know they have software that does this, but a button is physical and right in front of you with an indicator LED displaying if it is on or off. 12 inch Inspiron with ubuntu (Programmers battlefield) Inspiron products, Linux, Monitors and Displays submitted by phani Feb 24
12inch screen will be the best when it comes to programming, not multimedia. Bring back high resolution screens (1680x1050) for Ubuntu laptops Linux, Laptops submitted by meuge Feb 22
I understand that Dell has decided to use the high resolution panels in the XPS line of laptops, and not in the Inspiron line. However, this means that it's impossible to purchase a laptop with Ubuntu that has a higher screen resolution than 12XX. Let us leave the laptop plugged in for as long as we want without negatively affecting the battery. Laptop Power submitted by sotopheavy Feb 21
My rule of thumb is if a battery goes down below an hour of laptop life it is useless . This usually happens within the first 8 months of owning a laptop for me. Provide more processor options for linux desktops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Linux submitted by rebresb Feb 13 Only one Linux desktop model is available (Inspiron 530N) and only one processor choice exists for it (dual core 2160). This CPU is a low-to-moderate performance choice; it is near the lowest offering in the Windows line-up. While Linux clearly out-performs Windows on modest hardware, the choice of Linux doesn't merely reflect a cost-savings and performance-optimized decision. Users may want the choice of high-end CPUs for intensive applications with Linux. Windows is not the choice of those who want high-end equipment; it requires high-end equipment to run "well". Linux users seeking peak performance will thus want fast processors. (Note that the most/fastest supercomputers run Linux). Support for such processors / motherboards isn't an issue for Linux, so certification by Dell shouldn't be difficult (??). The profit margin is likely higher on these CPUs (??), so that should be attractive. So why doesn't Dell include fast Intel or AMD offerings such as quad-core, 64 X2, core 2 extreme, etc.? 6 Comments » Linux, Printers and Ink, Service and Support submitted by jfelisky 02/21/07
I have a Dell 3100cn laser printer, which was a nice purchase until I dropped Windows XP and moved to OpenSuSE on my home computer. Dell: Support Open BIOSes for Linux Dell, Linux submitted by phubert 10/10/07 **REVIEWED**
An Open BIOS for Linux would free it from the DOS legacy code and speed boot times. coreboot (formerly LinuxBIOS) instead of proprietary BIOS Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by yesmathew 02/20/07

I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. make linux systems EASY TO FIND Dell Web Site submitted by phubert 10/18/07
At other sites, I have seen comments by individuals who have BOUGHT Dell Ubuntu systems complaining about the difficulty FINDING said systems. Start Warranty periods when the system is received, not shipped! Service and Support submitted by markj2k Jan 31
I have purchased several Dell systems over the last month or so for myself, and some consulting clients. I've noticed in each case that the warranty start date is the day the PC shipped, not the day the PC was received by the purchaser. This needs to be changed. The order status page changes to show when the system was delivered, so Dell knows when the delivery date is. That is the day the warranty should start. Offer HighResolution screens for your consumer Laptops as you do for the business Latitudes Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by rseibel 04/22/07
Please offer the highresolution screen for you consumer Inspiron and XPS laptops as an option as you do for the business line of Latitudes. It is not much more effort, but makes them much more attractive. Let me replace the Windows Key for a Linux key in the keyboard Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Linux submitted by silencer Feb 12

Dell has now decided to sell computers with Linux pre-installed. GREAT MOVE! But for the moment, it only concerns the US... Here outside the US, we can't wait to buy a pre-installed Linux Dell PC! Dell's Website must work with Firefox running on Linux Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by qgonjon 07/16/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
It's discouraging to have a Tier 1 vendor (Dell) selling Linux products and yet not really tailoring to Linux. Don't get me wrong Dell, I am not trying to take away all the good you have done. Offering Linux is a step in the right direction and I would like to see more steps taken in a monthly or quarterly basis. But, it seems that the basis for your current Linux promotion is for the Open Source enthusiast like me. I use Linux at home and at work as my main operating system. I use Firefox as my browser and I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 1420N. However, it seems that the embedded flash script that shows the different colors choices for the Inspiron is not working under Linux. It also shows that I can't see the different images thereafter. It works with Windows running Firefox as my vmware machine verified. But that is not the type of user that will most likely purchase a Linux laptop. track my votes
