dedicated hi power graphics in small form factor Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays submitted by jtanwanteng 02/28/07
On top of all the posts telling you to update design, please consider offering a new niche of notebook computers: ultraportable gaming. Many people are flocking to ASUS and the Sony SZ series for their needs because they include semi powerful graphics chips in a small, sleek and sturdy form factor. Your XPS 12" line is too thick and ugly to be a contender here, and there is an obvious gap in the 13,14 and 15 inch models. Look towards the panasonic notebooks for lightness inspiration, obviously apple for design, and asus and sony for cramming in graphics. Obviously heat and power is an issue here, but you can definitely figure out how to do it, i believe in you guys. email me if you need a few ideas We all hope no less than a NEW LAPTOP DESIGN when SantaRosa arrives !!! IT'S TIME TO DELL FOR REFRESHING THEIR PCs DESIGNS !!! Carbon Fiber, Magnesium Alloy, Titanium and other 'Exotic' materials Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by thorin_2 02/21/07
After literally MONTHS of research I finally settled on an IBM Thinkpad notepbook, not in small part due to the "coolness" or hip factor of having a laptop that partially consisted of carbon fiber casing (to reduce weight), a magnesium alloy "roll cage" (along with the accelerometer) to protect my data in case of a fall/drop, and even the optional titanium cover. These sorts of things set IBM apart from the crowd and eventually won me over. Laptops submitted by thany 02/21/07
Offer a 13" laptop that is very power-efficient, so offer it with a ULV processor and with a LED-backlight. Just like the Asus U1F (but without the leather). And don't forget to make it lightweight. LED backlight TFT-Displays (for laptops) Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by svenmeyer 02/20/07
If you use your laptop for a while, you will notice already after a few months that the brightness of the display decreases, the color changes, what was white a the beginning starts to look more blueish or greenish ... all this could be avoided with LEDs instead of flourescent lamps as backlight. Also the save power and distribute the light more evenly across the screen. submitted by chris55 02/22/07
Dell laptops are power hungry. Most consume 40-60W and this weakness is demonstrated by the fact that Dell make very few claims about battery life of their notebooks/laptops. Do any of them last much more than 2-2.5 hours? Laptop Power submitted by tfehe4 02/20/07 Why is the battery charger still a big, ugly piece of 1990s electronics? Take a look at Apple and just see how elegant and thoughtful they designed their notebook charger. Comment » Sales Strategies submitted by dvd 02/23/07 If you're going to hook up w/a retail partner, Target would be the best choice - they don't have computers (yet), as WalMart does, and are growing fast, yet still keeping true to their vision. I think you will get better interaction on this site if you somehow thread or group your ideas (like the categories already set up) and then moderate and "seed" them with questions to get people focused on the topics that you are most interested in receiving feedback on. Better Graphics cards on 14" and 15" laptops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by nyuen1976 02/21/07 ATI x1400 is the best graphics card on the 6400 - the Geforce 7300 isn't that great. It would be nice to have this feature on Dell notebooks, maybe an option to condition the battery while the laptop is on AC power? 1 Comment » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by mikeweb 02/23/07 Put more USB slots to a notebook. I have personally purchased six computers from Dell, from top o' the line XPS gaming rigs to workday laptops and desktops. How about a little something for the effort? as Carl would say. No OS Preloaded and a choice of DELL-certified DVDs for OS preinstall Operating Systems submitted by yves.demur 02/24/07
The PC must be software bare. The customer will have the choice to buy, from DELL or editors, the DVDs that puts the PC in the equivalent preinstalled state. The installation operations must be done by booting on the choosen DVD and answer a few simple questions. Get rid of pestware *cough* demos. submitted by grayone 02/24/07 Nothing is more annoying than booting up your brand new "clean" machine to find a dozen plus pieces of trial software. Why not just offer the free and open source alternatives? 1 Comment » Software, Desktops and Laptops submitted by yar 02/20/07
As a tech, I would like to see Dell make an efford to make a Clean Software System, by this I mean only what a customer want on his or her Dell. Built-In Webcam and Microphone Option on Inspiron Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by olegturaev 02/20/07
Built-in webcams are available on some XPS models. Why not on Inspiron? Right now, it's the reason I'm leaning toward HP rather than Dell. Offer a New Line with upgradability for laptops AKA Video Cards Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by snowbob230 02/18/07
