Service and Support Overhaul

Service and Support submitted by beamermt25 05/16/07

Ever since I placed my order with Dell 2 years ago, I have had nothing but problems with Dell Technical support. I personally consider myself an Advanced User when it comes to computers and technology, however every one I run into in chat or email treats me like I am a beginner. There should be some way to let the techs know that I'm not stupid. If i say my computer hard drive is dead, its dead! If my DVD player doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Yes I understand the need for troubleshooting, however, most of the time I am troubleshooted to such a degree as to make me feel stupid and it wastes my time. What could have taken an hour or two, takes a day or two and then you have to wait for shipping and techs and this and that. So the basis of my Idea, is to find ways to streamline and customize support options for your customers. Not every computer is built alike, and not everone buying them is the same either. 1 Comment »

Better Computer Information

Dimension products submitted by beamermt25 03/21/07

About 7 months ago, my parents purchased a B110 from Dell not knowing a whole lot, they didn't want to spend TOO much money on a computer, but they wanted something rather nice. Now a few months later, I went to do a few upgrades and found that the computer only had PCI slots. No AGP or PCIe (not that I would expect PCIe), and of course its much too late to return the unit. Now we all understand that low end means low end, but I belive Dell has a responsibility to fully inform their customers as to what they are getting. We could have gone elsewhere and spend the same amount for something a bit more upgradable. 2 Comments »

A REAL restore DVD

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by beamermt25 03/14/07

I know there has been some minor discussion about this, but I wanted to add my 2 pennies. Please make a real restore DVD. Most computers now come with DVD drives of some sort, and this restore dvd could easily have an application to return your computer to its ORIGINAL state as in, 'look ma I just turned it on!' state. Alot of people I know do not know how or have the time to wipe the partitions, install the OS, install the drivers and blah blah. I can't tell you how many different disks I recieved for my computer and half of them are either REALLY old and have nothing to do with my machine, or just plain don't have anything to do with my computer. Now of course this would be used if the restore partition was damage or destoryed or something. 2 Comments »

Making it easy to find your new Dell.

Dell Web Site submitted by beamermt25 03/13/07

I think dell should make things a bit easier when searching for good values. If you select 'home' in new computer sales, you then get a choice for either the XPS line or the Dimension line. If you select XPS your well on your way to completing your computer, however if you select what most people probably select, the Dimension line, you have a long way to go. For example, you select the Dimension line and then you have to select what amounts to 'basic, intermediate, or advance' computers. Granted everything is just different configurations of the same thing, however if you select either one of these you get around 4 choices, for a total of 12 choices (or more) if you look through the entire lineup! Now I know hardware enough to make my own choices and 'build' my own computer, but my mother and most of my friends don't know and don't care so imagine how difficult it would be for them to decide!, especially since all the computers look the same. In closing, I feel that Dell should either streamline the entire site for the Dimension line so its easier for people to decide what they want, or start changing the looks and designs of the computers, make them different, so people are not so confused. A confused shopper, doesn't buy anything. Comment »
