Make it easier to clean the Fans on laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by pwl2706 Jul 10

It is very difficult to clean the fans on laptops...and the more dust that builds up over time increases the heat inside.

There should be either a way to open a couple of screws then pull or slide out the Fans so they can be 'hoovered' or cleaned with compressed air, or a software to make the Fan run in reverse mode that might clean it... 10 Comments »

"Advanced" mode option

Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by playmariokong Jul 11

I realize that by offering limited choices at each step in the purchase process, you are helping those who are not familiar with building out a PC from scratch. However, for those of us who HAVE built a PC before and don't really want to have to do it ourselves, having more options is ideal and important.

What I propose is an "Advanced" option that presents a much larger number of options to the user. The average user has been trained to stay away from and not click anything that says "Advanced" thanks to Microsoft and other companies. This would allow you to offer additional options to more knowledgeable users. 1 Comment »

Desktops, Linux submitted by he_the_great Jun 12

Splashtop is an integrated Linux desktop that lets you instantly boot your computer into an environment to browse the web and other tasks. I don't see any reason not to have it everywhere. 1 Comment »

Dell Computers with e-sata ports

Servers and Storage, Desktops and Laptops submitted by chasrome Jun 13

Dell needs to supply and announce the availability of desktop, notebook, and servers with e-sata ports to which the many available external drives can be attached. RAID (0 and 1) could be available especially for servers. The ports should support six foot cables (not just three foot). Comment »

Modify the Trackpad design clearing the buttons at the bottom

Laptops submitted by casiciaco Jun 14

Instead of the classical trackpad with the two buttons in the bottom, move the left button to the left and the right button to the right, clearing the bottom. In this way, the trackpad height is increased. It would also be necessary to expand the horizontal size of the trackpad in order to get bigger and more confortable trackpads. 3 Comments »

One Configurator 2 Rule Them All!

Dell Web Site submitted by q0987 Jun 14

Sorry about the title, I just couldn't help it.

Okay, this may just be me but why are there FOUR configurators to use when buying a system with the options split amongst them? What if I wanted something in between Cheap option and Really Cheap option. Do I have to buy the extra components even if I ain't ever gonna use them.

IDEA:

Have ONE configurator with ALL of the options listed and apply the price cuts whilst the customer is browsing between them by showing how total is worked out in a drop-down box next to the scroll bar e.g. RAM 3GB: - ₤15.
If you have to, then put [recommendations] down at the top of the page. Youknow, maybe something like 'Add the Monitor and get ₤50 off'. This way the price will adjust automatically so users won't have to go through each configurator to find out which one would give them the best price for whatever they have in mind.
It would be alot less confusing and frustrating and more quicker for the customer.

WHICH ONE DO I USE!?

And whilst we are on the subject, how come Crimson Red isn't available for the m1330 anymore?
Also, Montevina is suppose to come out this month. Any chance the Dell technicians will be able fit the Blu-ray drive whenever they decide to do the refresh? They said they were gonna when the m1330 was released about a year ago. Ain't it about time they come clean if they simply can't do it. Then we can finally stop holding our breath.

Sell all Products/Options in ALL Countries

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by missdiva Jun 8

As Dell is supposed to be an International Company, can it now get its act together and ensure that all Products/Options are available in every Country they sell to.

When a new Product/Option is introduced ,it should be available for sale on every Dell Website ....not just the USA.

An example of Dells poor marketing strategy is the ' when will the LED screen for the 1530 become available in the UK/Europe/Australia ' debacle.

There has been numerous posts on various forums asking if/when this option will be introduced, simply because Dell gives priority to US customers (LUCKY THEM!) We still have no idea if it will ever be reach our shores....

Please change this unfair sales practice. 2 Comments »

Stealth Mode for XPS laptops

XPS products submitted by jhaber Jun 10

I think it would be nice if the next XPS notebooks included an integrated graphics card that can be switched to, along with a Stealth mode that can be switched to (like your newest Alienware line). These modes would really increase the battery. The m15x gets 2:30 on a six cell... I think that you guys can do a lot better with the XPS line. 5 Comments »

Streamline configuration of systems

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by sarena Jun 6

I am frustrated by the fact that, depending on how I *get* to the customization process (e.g. through "as advertised," "savings spotlight," or simply various entry points to the configuration process of the SAME computer), I get DIFFERENT configuration options. Depending on how I get to the customization screen I can get different CPU options, RAM options, hard disk options, graphics options...and of course, different PRICES.

I think there should just be ONE customization process for each model. For example, instead of there being FOUR XPS options to customize on their starting page (http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=ca...) it would much more straightforward to have the full range of customization options available for each basic system. 1 Comment »

Notify Customer BEFORE Cancelling Orders

Service and Support submitted by n4aof Jun 6

When Dell decides that they aren't interested in filling a customer's confirmed order it would be nice if Dell would bother notifying the customer (preferably before cancelling the order, but certainly at least immediately afterward). 2 Comments »

A radio switch to turn on graphic card,or shut it off.... and depend on intergrated graphics

Laptops submitted by kailer Jun 6

My laptop graphic card is eating up alot of my energy, that is what i realize.so it will be great if we can turn off the graphic card while we are not gaming but turn it on if we need it....
because if i am doing work using laptop using the graphic card without running on power source...i cant finish my work in such a short time.i might as well turn off my graphic card because Microsoft word doesn't need great graphic to work on it......
it be great for those who wants a gaming laptop while the laptop can last long too when you are not gaming... 3 Comments »

Make dell computers have less popups. I have a Dimension and it has a lot of pop ups. This is very annoying. The computer would function much more easily with less popups. 5 Comments »

Growing Gaming Community; Smaller Gaming Laptops wanted!

Gaming, Laptops submitted by djdenny123 Jun 5

With technology improving each day to shrink laptop sizes, the demand for a smaller gaming powerhouse grows exponentially. With a good majority of gamers enjoying intense, crisp LARGE image gaming on their 17" behemoths, there are still those who'd love to take gaming to the ultraportable level. Systems nowadays offer decent gaming at 14" levels, or with the Dell XPS 1330, at the 13" level. But, some of us would still love to see a smaller laptop. Take the Sony VAIO TZ model for instance: right now it doesn't offer a whole lot of multimedia-based freedom, but the design is inarguably a sexy machine. I can put money down that gamers would love to be able to game on this ultraportable 11" screen.

So the topic is: will we be seeing a similar sexy model (ideally 11") ultraportable decent gaming powerhouse sometime in the near future? Or can Dell at least answer to such a call and consider possibly making the market's first ultraportable gaming rig? I'm sure with the introduction of Solid State drives and nVidia vigourously shrinking graphic card sizes, it can be possible in the near future.

Any comments one can elaborate on? Because in my honest opinion, gamers will love the ultraportability of their gaming, not so much how amazing the quality of video is (unless you're a hardcore, desktop-replacement psycho ;] haha) 4 Comments »

Dell: Support Open BIOSes for Linux

Dell, Linux submitted by phubert 10/10/07 **REVIEWED**

An Open BIOS for Linux would free it from the DOS legacy code and speed boot times.

The current BIOS is a legacy throwback... it's time to replace it!

Our current priority is to expand Linux availability by bringing more platforms and languages to market. Read what daniel_j has to say.

focus your monitor

Monitors and Displays submitted by dfoster Jun 4

I'm not sure if they exist but I think it would be helpfull to a lot of people if you could focus your monitor so that you wouldn't have to wear your prescription glasses all day. This would eliminate the pain caused on your nose and the sides of your head as well as rendering a lost contact or forgotten glasses indifferent to compleating your work. 9 Comments »
