The Inspiron 1525 needs a graphics card!
Inspiron products submitted by union

The new Inspiron 1525 laptop does not have ANY discrete graphics cards!
The old 1520 had a whole line of graphics options, but this new replacement only offers a useless Intel accelerator.Even the smaller 1420 has a graphics card--it seems Dell wants users to upgrade to the XPS line to get even basic graphics performance.
Unfortunately, without a discrete card a laptop's ability to edit photos or videos, run presentations, play games and run Windows Vista is crippled.
To fix the problem, Dell should offer at least two graphics card options on the 1525, which would make it one of best laptops around.

Lightscribe DVD burners option

I know this has been brought up before, but hey, if the Linux crowd can post ad nausem about the same thing, I fiigured why not I?
LIGHTSCRIBE DVD burners as an option across all your product lines.
A Lightscribe DVD burner lets you directly label the disc in the player.
HP has it as an option, but it's conspiciously missing from DELL.
Having this and a numeric keypad on a 17" laptop could be a deal breaker. I know it is for me. If DELL doesn't come out with both of these features by August, I'll have no choice but to buy from

Show the Vista performance rating during system configuration.
Dell Web Site submitted by jervis961

People may not realize that Vista gives your computer a performance rating based on several factors (processor, RAM, hard drive and video card). Dell should show the performance rating on the side as you build your computer and update it as you go along changing the configuation. This should give people a guage as to if an upgrade will really improve your overall performance and also what kinds of games and programs your new computer will be capable of.

Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS.
Check out jeremy_f's update on our current software options.

Advertise Graphics RAM correctly
Advertising and Marketing submitted by joffe100
04/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
When we say we want to buy a 512Mb graphics card we really do want a 512Mb graphics card - not 512Mb with 256mb physical memory with 256mb shared! This is really BAD and misleading advertising - you do not see other RAM memory being sold 1Gb (512Mb physical, 512Mb shared!)
Should read: 512Mb physical memory and it actually be 512Mb physical memory
NOT: 512Mb** and then some tiny asterixed disclaimer on a linked page that points out that the 512Mb is some funky combination of 3Mb physical and the rest being pulled from virtual memory - this kills many graphic intense apps and games...
suprised no-one has sued over this? Not sure many buyers are even aware....

DVI or HDMI out on all laptops models?
Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by tommarnk
07/06/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
this would be a big jump, if dell add "DVI out" on all dell laptops, so people can connect to there LCD Displays or LCD HDTVs natively
the picture quality will be grealy improved
this should be easy to do as most of new chipsets has dvi out
not many laptop manufacturers add "dvi out" to there lower end products, so it might be a wise move to do so
all LCD monitors and lcd hdtvs has dvi or hdmi in so it might work well
and meybe remove the old VGA out and put a singel DVI-I, it can be used as analog (VGA) to, by using VGA-to-DVI-I adapter like tose used on
standard computer graphic cards for years now
many people like me connect monitor via dvi or hdmi to get the best picture and color quality
The offerings for the XPS M1730: Dual-link DVI-I (support for 30-inch displays) and HDMI via DVI adapter. Check out all the specs for the new systems.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Recommendations
Inspiron products submitted by numbernine
Feb 5
Here are some recommendations that i suggest for improving the dell inspiron 1525 line of laptops. I was seriously considering purchasing this system but i think it needs more work.
recommendations in order of my personal preference
1. Change the design of the 9 cell battery to raise the laptop at a steeper angle just like the dell xps 1530, it provides better ergonomics in my opinion. 2. a.Provide better integrated graphics that actually support HD video playback accelerationthat is guaranteed not to be choppy at most resolutions, and good aero glass performance b.Offer low end dedicated graphics solution (ati or nvidia) for better video playback, aero glass, and overall performance boost for all apps for non-gamers like me. 4.better processors at least up to t7500 5. continue Magnesium-aluminum chassis 6. Offer 12-cell battery 7. glossy exterior and interior finishes for, smoother feel and better paint durability 8. backlit keyboards that are similar to apples hole covered design, but maintain the traditional spacing that current dell machines have. i don't like apples spread out keys.

Expand Wireless USB to All Systems; Add to Peripherals
Broadband and Mobility, Printers and Ink submitted by coachcg

Dell - Thanks for being one of the first to market with notebooks containing wireless USB - the Inspiron 1525 and the Inspiron 1720 ( http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2008/01/03/40345.aspx ). Could you accelerate WUSB implementation into all your notebooks and then into all your desktops too?
Could you also work on getting WUSB transmitters installed in all your printers and peripherals?
Lastly, it would be great for those that have already purchased existing notebooks if you could work on getting them a wireless USB upgrade - possibly as an express card and/or PCMCIA add on for laptops.
For those who do not know about Wireless USB, here is a good article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_USB
Bluetooth has been nice and probably will need to remain in notebooks for a time, the speed and range of this new WUSB technology will allow us to have much more mobility in our workspace and reduce and/or eliminate the need for docking stations.

Dell... Offer Faster RAM!
Sales Strategies submitted by incubus240
Jan 20
Dell needs to offer faster RAM (i.e. If the FSB on the laptop is 800Mhz then match with 800Mhz RAM rather than 667Mhz RAM). I always have to buy the minimum amount of RAM for the system and end up throwing it away. They charge me $350 for 2GB of 667Mhz then I turn around and purchase 4GB of 800Mhz for $130. Since they make you buy at least 2GB... it is such a waiste!

Allow notebook batteries to be charged outside the notebook as well
submitted by eaglewonj
Jan 24
Design notebook batteries that can be charged outside the notebook on the same power adapter. This would allow two or more batteries to be charged at once. It also allows the laptop to remain away from a power adapter and have batteries brought to it that are charged remotely.
Perhaps this could be done with the notebook docks. Dock and charge the laptop and the extra battery.

Need a non-gaming notebook with hi-res and DVI/HDMI
Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by jcsalem
Feb 6
My business needs notebooks with high-resolution TruLife screens and DVI or HDMI out. It would be fine if the DVI/HDMI were only available via a docking port.
We're a small photography business that does a lot of 1-on-1 client presentations on the road and having the high-resolution, high-contrast screen is essential. In the office, we need DVI (preferably) or HDMI output for our desktop displays. I suspect there are many other kinds of businesses in a similar situation.
The only laptops that fit this bill are the high-end XPS gaming laptops and the Precision Workstation laptops. These are heavier, much larger, and more expensive than we'd like. They also feature much more 3D graphics horsepower than we'll ever use and their battery life is subpar.
The Latitudes are good except they don't have the TrueLife displays. The Vostros would be perfect except no DVI. Same with the Inspirons.
Can't we get something like a Vostro 1500 or a Latitude D830 with WSXGA+, TrueLife, and DVI out?

IMPLEMENT the INTEL PENRYN 45nm Processor on Dell's Notebook and Desktop it require less power more performance NOW!!! Dell is behind from HP

Dell should start to sell notebook with Penryn processor because it require less power more performance T9500 6MB L2 2.60 GHz 800 MHz T9300 6MB L2 2.50 GHz 800 MHz T8300 3MB L2 2.40 GHz 800 MHz T8100 3MB L2 2.10 GHz 800 MHz specially on the XPS line etc... , well i hope DELL would not overcharge the consumers , dell can you sell this to us right now!!! for now it seems dell is falling behind again , well they have catchup with their design but somehow they fall behind with the power inside the laptop especially the penryn processors , dell hear us now implement the PENRYN processor , your behind from HP now , if you have gone to hp website and choose the dv9700t and dv6700t model you will see that HP is getting started about the Intel Penryn T9300 6MB L2 2.50 GHz as an option, , i dont know why DELL is Behind they should implement this now!!!
