Get GNU/Linux Machines in Retail Stores Linux submitted by dpic Feb 14 Imagine how successful Dell's Ubuntu offering could be if just one Dell Ubuntu machine was put in retail stores. If people knew of an alternative to Windows, they would go for it! So what do you say, Dell? Why don't you try to put at least one of your Ubuntu machines offered in retail stores? 736 Comments » Implemented: Ubuntu Dell is Le$$ Than Windows Dell Linux submitted by thebittersea 05/05/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
see comment from Erik down below... [Dell's Pricing Team] Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. Put Ubuntu on the list of operating systems when building a PC! Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. Silent / Quiet Computers: Sound levels in decibels Desktops and Laptops submitted by pchris 02/17/07 **REVIEWED**
I'd like Dell to provide the sound level in decibels for each of their desktops, under max load as well as at idle. National Call Centers [and other Service Improvement Ideas] Service and Support submitted by henrieb 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
As a corporate customer I like Dell's products and my USA customer support. I have read the web about all the people that have had problems with Dell customer service and mine and others are not isolated incidences. If you want people to be loyal take a hint from the corporate sales and give Home users even a little customer support. My corporate help does not read scripts, they have the power to take ownership and fix the problem. Granted I do buy Gold support. If Dell thinks it saves money for bad support; I have personally talked 20 or 30 people out of buying a Dell. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by yesmathew 02/21/07

Dell's image was damaged by the $1bn Intel kickback scandal. Many in the computer industry believe that Microsoft's grip on Dell and other PC Builders is airtight due to secret deals and marketing kickbaks. Consumers appreciate lower prices on new Dell PCs thanks in part to bundled 3rd party software, however we are not permitted to choose the software that is pre-installed, and kickback deals are not transparent. Dell became a top company by providing choice and customer service to a customer that wasn't available at the time but has since fallen behind the pack in these areas. Needing a translator when calling customer support is unnacceptable and other companies are rapidly passing Dell in technology advancements. While this site is a good start, many things need to be changed for Dell to become the market leader again. All operating systems on all platforms! Operating Systems submitted by markvs624 07/09/07
Do just what the title says: offer all operating systems on all platforms with full support. Don't restrict Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Unbuntu to certain models. Allow orders to be canceled online (or streamline phone process) Dell Web Site, Service and Support submitted by neil_c 08/06/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
I've been very pleased with Dell's online ordering system - for initial ordering - but extremely disappointed with it's inability to change or cancel orders, even when those orders are weeks away from production. I just ordered an Inspiron 1520 laptop, and realized I should have ordered a 1420. When I attempted to cancel the 1520 order (only hours after it was placed, and still FOUR WEEKS before its ship-by-date) my only option was to call sales support. When the phone center finally opened (I'd ordered over the weekend), I had to wait on hold 5 different times for 5 different people (some in India, some elsewhere) and was repeatedly told that I needed to talk to someone else and that I would be transfered - and several times was just dumped back into the initial call menu. I was very carefully selecting the correct menus each time, and every time time (from the same menus) got a different excuse from the rep as to why they were unable to help. In the end I got someone in India (by selecting exactly the same phone-menu-options) and the order was canceled, but it took over an hour on the phone! Sales Strategies submitted by polarwolf 02/28/07 This one is a short and easy one...if Dell doesn't want or can't offer OS-less consumer PCs or laptops, at least make it easier for customers to claim the refund they're intitled to in the Microsoft EULA if they don't accept the terms of the license. 21 Comments » http://www.dell.com/ubuntu should display an Ubuntu-specific page Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by limulus 08/02/07

I've been noticing the limited color options with the XPS m1330 line of notebooks, so I thought to myself - "Why not make my own color?" Here are some pictures of my proposed color addition to the XPS m1330, Cobalt Blue. track my votes
