Doc 30 day getting started contracts for free...

Advertising and Marketing submitted by supeg 04/27/07

I think that if we somehow had a program where instead of offering the 30 day getting started contracts for 50 dollars, if we offered them for free. By doing so, we will have a lot more people using it, therefore we are able to position upgrades to a ton of people who would get to use the service and find out how valuable it really is.

I think the main thing keeping people away from getting DOC is they do not know that we have tools like Dellconnect, and we can basicly do whatever a tech could do in person, software wise.

We could even make it into a incentive to buy a Dell Computer, by including 30 days free support. Comment »

Monitor Adjustment settings for night use

Monitors and Displays submitted by dellvin 04/28/07

Dear Dell,

I have noticed a common problem with on screen controls.

When you adjust brightness, the on screen dialog box opens up and burns a hole in your eyes wth its brightness. Surely the dialog box could be made "greyish" and also adjust its own brightness with the background image. To my knowlegde nobody since the dawn of time has bothered to fix this problem.

While I am ranting, do display vendors realise the bluish tint from monitors upsets the sleep body clock particularly when used late at nights. (Like the BSOD for people)

Maybe a "periscope" version of monitor biasing could be released with a reddened screen for night / darkened room use.

Thanks. 1 Comment »

Fast Shipping Option for Cheap Business Machines

Operating Systems, Service and Support submitted by felix.schwarz 04/28/07

Several times I was in the unfortunate situation that I needed (one/multiple) computer(s) ASAP. Typically, I client decided he needs another working place or an old computer was faulty. In these situations I had to order non-dell computers because there are some vendors which provide cheap (315 Euro incl. shipping, without tax and no operating system, 420 Euro with Windows XP Professional) computers which will be delivered on the next business day if you order before 5pm.

Dell was no option in these situations because orders won't be delivered that fast. I really like the build-to-order principle but sometimes I just need another computer FAST. These computer have virtually no requirements other than 'cheap office machine'.

I would like to see Dell introducing a low-end computer (like the current C521) with 512 or 1024 MB (just choose one) which is not configurable (only type of service can be choosen, maybe adding a monitor) but is delivered on the next business day. Of course this is for business use - Windows Vista Home Basic is not acceptable. We need the Business versions and probably XP as long as possible (as no client likes to introduce a new operating system ad hoc).

In order to get these fast shipping times, you need to pre-produce a certain ammount of these machines which should be no problem as there are only one or two variants. 1 Comment »

Numbered keys on notebooks

Laptops submitted by ron912 04/28/07

I'd like to see an expanded notebook with a number keypad on the right side. I think there are a lot of financial prefessionals that would appreciate this. 6 Comments »

Now You Choose – Concept 1

Gaming, XPS products submitted by dell_admin1 04/25/07

Participate in the product design process! Dell is using IdeaStorm to decide between two new product design concepts. Vote on your favorite and weigh in to tell us what you think.

When we unveiled the XPS 710 H2C at CES this year, we also uncovered it. There were a limited number of systems sprinkled throughout the show floor that had a clear side panel allowing easy viewing of the patent-pending two-stage H2C liquid cooling system.

Since then, more than a few people have suggested we offer a “panel with a view” as an option for our XPS 710 line. Now we need you to vote for one of these two options and, most importantly, share some reasons why you like it.

This “Now You Choose” vote campaign will be open from Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most votes will be featured in a future generation of XPS gaming desktops.

Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser

Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**

Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF.
Firefox advocates at Dell have initiated discussions and driven action around exploring alternative internet browsers and experiences. As you can tell from our response to the Linux community, open source continues to be a part of our conversations about new products and services.
