Match HP's Vista refund of $200 for people who reject the pre-installed Vista EULA. Operating Systems submitted by jmxz Jul 21
It looks like HP is now refunding $200 to people who reject the pre-installed Vista license agreement I went down to Best Buy and picked up an HP dv6815nr since it was on sale for $599.99+tax. After powering it up, I was confronted by the Microsoft Windows Vista EULA and the HP EULA: ... [long story].... I received a check from HP in the mail for $200 on 7/17/08 ... So, world, it CAN be done - this is ~34% refund bringing the total cost of my laptop to $399.99+tax. Don't take NO for an answer. Know your rights and enforce them, or you may one day no longer have them. Idea: Match the refund HP's giving for people who reject the Vista EULA. (note that this idea is about the dollar-value of the discount; and shouldn't be merged into the ideas about making the process easier) 4 Comments » Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by agreer 02/17/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down. Quit forcing McAfee subscriptions Software, Laptops submitted by kyliemanders Jul 26 I bought a 15" Studio laptop and was unable to order WITHOUT the McAfee $79 per year four year subscription. The first thing I do is uninstall. I would prefer to use Windows Defender. 6 Comments » Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has. Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500". I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. Here is a news article about trialware and how Dell feels that regular customers want it but small business ones do. Do they not look at the ideas here? Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. Standardize Power Cables for Laptops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades. Environment submitted by falbert May 22
In the last shipment of computers I received I was shocked by the amount of plastic wrap used for items like power cords, USB cables, VGA/DVI cables. Do these items really need to be individually wrapped in a plastic bag. I can just imagine the tons of plastic used by Dell annually... Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Linux is greener than Vista Bring back DVI and better video card options on the Inspiron/"Vostro" line. Inspiron products submitted by adorettic 08/13/07 The removal of a DVI port on all of the Vostro / Inspiron line is ridiculous. While the rest of the world is moving towards DVI dell is moving away from it. Also bring back the options for DX9 cards on these laptops because the current dx10 offering is worse than the card I bought on my Inspiron 9300. Leaving the DVI port only on the XPS laptops to force people to buy them is a really shady practice. Some people don't want to spend double the money of an inspiron 1520 or 1720 on an xps system to be able to play games playable on a 3 year old system. 3 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by terrymain 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
