Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. HP has a quite capable Media Vault: Have more then one fan speed for the inspiron 1525 Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by thundergrey May 21 All the insprion 1525 has is "High" fan speed. this makes it loud and annoying. My 1520 has a "low" (2250RPM) and a "high" (3500RPM) setting, and when its on "low" you cant even hear it. this should be included on the 1525. OptiPlex products submitted by falbert May 22 Forget about performance for a second or two and give "Silence" a chance. I was very sad with the latest Dell products we received. The Optiplex 755 and some servers were just too loud. Silence is golden and does make a more pleseant computing experience. 2 Comments » Laptops submitted by falbert May 22
Please make a useable "laptop" ie:computer that you can put on your lap... Improve your high-end (>$1000) PCs - Apple's doing well there. Sales Strategies submitted by jmxz May 23
Fortune Magazine this month has an interesting article on Apple 2.0
I imagine this >$1000 segment is more profitable than the budget segment too. Wonder what Dell needs to do to catch Apple here. It'd be interesting to see if people have good specific places Dell needs to improve compared to Apple on >$1000 machines in the comments.. 3 Comments » If Apple is poised to take Microsoft down... Forrester sees Apple ruling the living room giving old computers to underpriveleged people Environment, Education submitted by drorb73 May 25 **REVIEWED**
An acquaintance of mine is going to start college soon on financial aid, and does not have the resources to purchase a new computer. Currently lots of people send their old computers back to "recycling" programs whereby the machines are shipped to China where some kid breaks them open bare-handed. Instead, computer manufacturers could reinstall some reasonable software on them and give them away (perhaps at a token cost) to under-priveleged people here in developed countries. I have no doubt that lots of perfectly decent 3 year old computers get junked - and there are lots of poor Americans and Europeans that could use these machines for another several years. Wouldn't this be more "green"? Thanks! Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Servers and Storage, Desktops and Laptops submitted by johnmc May 27 I'd like to see Dell offer a laptop, designed for mobile business. Specifically one with a built in "signature pad" so that a form could be designed in Microsoft Word or even better in Infopath and the client could sign using a stylus on the laptop itself. Forms could be created entirely on the laptop in the field from templates, signed in the field and then printed on a mobile printer, with a copy given to the client and an electronic signed copy synchronized as soon as they return to the office. I realize that a tablet pc can do this now, but this would be a more simple and effective way to fill out the forms, most supermarkets have a signature pad that almost everyone is familiar with, an area on the laptop with a signature block should not be that hard to build in. Other features should include wireless, solid state memory hard drive, and the built in lighting like some of the other "rugged" models, and the availability of a port replicator or docking station. Also I'd like to see a docking station with a built in external hard drive so that while in the car you could create a backup of the laptop for emergency recovery in case the laptop itself gets stolen or damaged, at least you would not have lost files. 1 Comment » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by warrenr May 28 since alienware is part of dell and they offer dual drives on a 15" laptop, why is this not an option on the dell branded laptops? Comment » Service and Support submitted by joes15 May 28 I have been told that I can only upgrade my Dimension E521 with parts from Dell because other parts won't work. In other words Dell uses proprietary parts. This really dissapoints me. I bought my PC with the thought that I would be able to upgrade later. I think that if Dell would use standard parts it could 1. porbably save a lot of money when it comes to manufacturing, and 2. it could increase sales because people want very upgradeable PC's. I know I do. 4 Comments » Don't put the Dell logo upside down on the Mini Inspiron Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 29
I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down. Operating Systems submitted by aikiwolfie May 29
Windows 7 is apparently going to come with quite a sting in the wallet for consumers. A while back Microsoft floated the idea of a subscription software service you pay for every time you use it. And most of these "services" are already offered pre-installed or for free like Office or Hotmail. Operating Systems submitted by kingnewby Jun 2 Windows Vista has been the greatest thing that has ever happened to Apple. The Apple OS is sleek and actually quite robust for what it is, and what is it but a BSD shell with a GUI and a few copyrighted mods. Apple is first and formost a hardware company. As a whole the population in general hates Microsoft, so why not take the Apple IS and use it as non- microsoft alternative. There is a whole underground community doing it already, so why not get together with Apple and work it out. It works great, and If I can hack it and make it work on my laptop that now quad boots with XP, Vista, OSX, and redhat, a couple of multi billion dollar companies should be more than capable. 10 Comments » Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades. track my votes
