I don't want Adobe Elements Studio!

Software submitted by thomasp94 Jan 24

Remove Adobe Elements Studio as a forced option for the XPS 420. A $349.00 value? Well, make it optional so that I can get my $349 back. Those of us that want an XPS 420 for gaming and not image or music editing have no use for this program, and will simply uninstall it as soon as we get the computer. So why can't it be optional to save us some money??? 2 Comments »

Windows XP on Inspiron 1525

XPS products submitted by toyota_supra Jan 24

I would like to see Dell offer Inspiron 1525 and XPS M1530 for that matter with Winows XP.
I would buy Inspiron 1525 with XP, if offered.

I have been using Windows Vista Home Premium since August of 2007 and I'm very disapointed with it. As a matter of fact my 7-year old laptop (Pentium III, 650 MHz Speed Step, 256 MB RAM) with XP Professional is booting faster, opening folders and files faster and more stable. Obviously the new laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo processor (T7100, 1.8 GHz) and 2GB of memory has significantly more "crunching" power, but is bugged down by inferrior Operating System.

Please provide Windows XP on more computers.

Regards,

Develop A "No OS" Compatibility Testing Tool

Service and Support submitted by aikiwolfie Jan 25

Given that Dell are clearly behind and struggling to cope with the overwhelming and monumental task of running compatibility testing for bare systems, I thought it was time for Dells customer base to give something back to Dell and not just give Dell their hard earned cash. Which of course could be better spent on more important things like buying the girl friends those shoes and that dress we never hear the end of.

So I propose a simple idea. Dell should produce and distribute to it's customer base a simple to use automated bare systems compatibility testing pattern. The tool will then report directly back to Dell with the results. Immediately giving Dell a wealth of correlative data that will help them choose the best course of action. Which will free Dell from the need to follow the leader. Always of course in second place.

Think of it as a way to "Simplify IT" or as a laxative to the blockage that stops Dell from adding "NO OS" to the OS selection box for "every" PC in the Dell product line. 10 Comments »

Sell Linux PC/Laptops Through QVC

Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by mattjones Jan 22

Currently, Dell sell PC's and Laptops through QVC as well as their own website. I personally would love to see Dell sell a Linux Desktop or Laptop via QVC.

I am sure many people who are curious about Linux would love to see such a system in action and I am sure the system would be a big hit!

You have to show people out there that the DO have a choice and that they do not have to purchase a Vista system that will not run properly because the specs of their laptop are too poor, or a system that is full of bloatware. 15 Comments »

Tri-screen laptop

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jbb3141 Jan 15

The popularity of mutliple screens used on PCs today is increasing daily. A lot of people have at least two screens but three are ideal.

It would be awesome to have a laptop with three screens, two that fold out; one on the left and one on the right of the normal laptop screen. These would fold inward to stack on the main screen then all three would fold down over the laptop as normal. 6 Comments »

Improve the Forum

Dell Community submitted by sergioo Jan 15

i.e.:
1) a spanish version. Spanish is the most spoken language in the word.
2) sub forums dedicated to eac model of notebook or desktop pc, so that people with same computer can create a sort of community and help each other better. In many other forums they do that, there are official thread for each notebook, which is not as a dedicated sub forum, this last could be even better...
3) visit some other forums and learn. There are meny functions missing in Dell Forum, like multi quote among all...
Etc... 56 Comments »

Offer 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista

XPS products submitted by jefisher Jan 14

I have been searching for a new laptop and would like to future-resist the purchase and take full advantage of the 4GB RAM that I would like to include, however the only versions of ANY OS that Dell supports is 32-bit only. Dell needs to offer up the 64-bit versions so that 1/2 the warrenty is not voided when I load the 64-bit version from Microsoft using the same licence (which yes is valid). If MS can offer up these disks, why cant Dell? Support 64-bit Computing now 90% of the computers sold at Dell.com can support it. 20 Comments »

Give another announcement of how many of your machines shipped with Vista like you did a year ago.

Advertising and Marketing, Operating Systems submitted by jmxz Jan 11

Almost exactly a year ago (Jan 29, 2007) Dell announced what percentage and now many Dell machines shipped with Vista. Interestingly, the percentage of Vista systems Dell announced for Jan 2007 was much much higher (about 61% higher) than current speculation based on Gartner and Information Week that suggest that industry-wide "Vista takeup on new PCs shipped in 2007 amounted to only 39 per cent". Other developments since Dell last announced Vista percentages included Dell adding XP to more models and supporting more different versions of Linux than they had in the past.

In light of these developments, Dell, could you announce the operating system market shares again this January, like you did last January? It seems like forward progress of being less dependent on Vista (thanks to XP and Ubuntu) would be good news for Dell.

[PS: I seem to recall someone from Dell on IdeaStorm saying Dell doesn't release such figures; but clearly the first link here shows that they did last year. If it's a new policy not to disclose the figures, could you instead describe that policy and why it was instituted?] 4 Comments »

Change the Dell Website

Dell Web Site submitted by fahdriyami Jan 11

The Dell Website looks dull and boring really...with its white and blue theme, Time to change, make it look more like micrososft or Vista, but different of course, not exactly the same. just the colours and shades look attracting...and say for the XPS pages,,,make them for example red and black and use that new Dell logo...like the one at the top left corner of this page... 7 Comments »

Why not give Ubuntu CD's with every new PC?

Advertising and Marketing, Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by twright Jan 7

Every new Home Dell computer (as far as i know) comes with a box of CD's and leaflets for broadband, McAfee and a load of other useless things.

i just think it would be nice if among them came a Ubuntu CD, so even if you didn't choose to get it preinstalled the CD would be there giving you the choice and saving those new to Linux the hassle of burning an .iso or ordering a shipit disc (which can often be a daunting task). 21 Comments »
